CONSTRUCTION FIXINGS

A key part of a structure is its fixings

Ornit Blind Rivets, a manufacturer and designer of a wide variety of structural fasteners, underlines that it can offer products for all types of structural joints including those requiring high clamp forces, as well as vibration resistant and maintenance free joints.

F

or vibration resistant joints Ornit has several alternative locking systems which create a high shear and tensile strength. Ornilock’s internal, Or-Bolt’s external and Orlock’s double-locking systems all hold the pin securely in the rivet body creating a tight, corrosive resistant joint. For thin, fragile or brittle joint materials, that may deform or break if the incorrect structural fixing is used, Ornit can

offer the Orlock, Super-Orlock and Or-Bulb series which it says are ideal for these materials because the large blind side area created on assembly distributes the high clamp load over a large area. Also, they all provide a secure joint without damaging the joint material. Ornit points out that the Ornilock, Or-Bolt and U-Fix (not structural) series boast excellent multi grip performance, meaning only

one type of rivet is needed for a wide variety of material thicknesses, thereby simplifying stock control and reducing operator error. The material used to manufacture a structural fastener also influences the strength of the joint. Ornit has a wide variety of

structural fasteners which are available in a range of metals, including cost effective aluminium, high strength steel and corrosive resistant stainless steel, allowing customers to choose the material most suitable to their application. “At Ornit we work vigorously to provide customers with quality structural fasteners best suited to their applications. Our

engineering department answers all enquiries concerning product enhancement and our R&D department is currently involved in two structural fastener projects, to be launched this year, involving a bulb type 4.8mm and an Orlock type 6.4mm.

Galaxy expands structural fasteners range

Galaxy Fasteners, a supplier of fasteners into distributors specialising within the structural market, has launched two brand new product ranges.

he extensive BSEN 15048 CE approved assembled bolting range covers diameters M12 - M30, from 30mm to 150mm long in zinc plated and galvanised finishes. The galvanised motorway barrier bolt kit range meanwhile is available in grades 4.8 and 8.8 and includes products F01 to F20, and CM028 through to CM053. Tom Murphy, sales director at Galaxy Fasteners, explained: “Galaxy is renowned within the industry for supplying

specialist structural fasteners and we evolve by continually investing in new products. 2011 has heralded the launch of two exciting new ranges that complement some of our existing lines, such as the original DIN Specified assembled bolting range.” He added: “The new ranges will offer enhanced choice and product availability for customers and ensure they have access to

the widest structural fastener range in the market.” All Galaxy products are head marked and batch controlled to ensure both traceability

and quality, promoting peace of mind for the customer. Motorway barrier bolting kits are specifically bagged and labelled to meet industry requirements. As a major supplier to distributors specialising in structural engineering, agricultural

and steel framed building sectors, Galaxy Fasteners says that it is the only company which offers a full package under one roof, saving distributor customers from needing to use additional suppliers to fulfil their requirements. The complete product range is available from stock, covering application at the initial fabrication stage with the original draftsman’s list, right through to the fully finished cladded structure. Galaxy offers guaranteed next day delivery, including direct to site and on customer’s

own paperwork, with exact quantities and full test certification. Full specification details of the assembled bolting range and motorway barrier bolting kit range will be available in the new 2011 Structural Fasteners Product Guide.
