fter decades of debate over how and when (and if) electric cars might ever gain a mass-market following,


the day has at last arrived. Tanks to the various generous, taxpayer-funded incentives programmes presently being put into place across Europe, early adopters of EVs are, right now, buying or leasing the cars at heavily subsidised rates.


Hand-in-hand with the arrival of models such as the Nissan Leaf, Peugeot iOn, Citroën C-Zero and Mitsubishi i-MiEV have come vast numbers of recharging points. Tese are being installed at places of work, supermarket car parks, private driveways, and on-street parking bays.


The companies involved


Daimler, which has already sold several thousand units of its smart ‘fortwo’ electric drive as well as various Mercedes-Benz plug-in delivery van models, has conducted extensive test programmes which have clearly shown that EVs are usually recharged where they are parked at home or work. It is taking an approach to recharging partners that

Dank der verschiedenen großzügigen, mit Steuergeldern finanzierten Anreizprogramme, die zur Zeit in so vielen europäischen Ländern eingeführt werden, kaufen oder leasen Erstanwender von Elektroautos die Fahrzeuge im Moment zu stark subventionierten Preisen.


Im Zuge der Einführung von Modellen wie Nissan Leaf, Peugeot iOn, Citroën C-Zero und Mitsubishi i-MiEV sind eine ungeheure Zahl von Ladestationen entstanden. Diese werden an Arbeitsstellen, Supermarkt- Parkplätzen, in privaten Garageneinfahrten und öffentlichen Parkbuchten auf der Straße eingerichtet.
