Skalli is scoring in the sky


Skalli wines now feature on the wine lists of some of the world’s largest airline companies. Jo Austin talks to Robert Skalli about the varietel wines in his vineyards


The family-run company based in the south of France has recently signed several agreements to supply airlines including Air France, ANA, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways. This follows a major contact with luxury cruise company, Cunard, at the beginning of 2010 to supply wines for Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria. For Robert Skalli, the chairman, these new partnerships are a clear endorsement of the quality of his wines: “We have been pursuing our quest for excellence in the vineyards of southern France for 90 years in the Languedoc, Rhone Valley, Provence and Corsica. Our mission is to introduce wine-lovers throughout the world to varietal wines from vineyards in this region. “As the airline industry emerges from the

financial crisis, and as the Asia-Pacific routes show current growth levels of around 13%, we are keen to meet a rising demand for high quality in-flight f&b service. “With regard to sustainable development


we are constantly working to reduce our environmental impact and in line with this aim we have developed initiatves like the small Couleurs du Sud PET bottle on Air France flights.”

Airline update: Air France: Long-haul Air France passengers in Economy can now enjoy the Couleurs du Sud Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon and Vermentino wines in a new environmentally-friendly lightweight 18.7 cl PET bottle which is fully recyclable.


ANA: New from April 2011 onward, ANA (All Nippon Airways) will serve Skalli’s 2009 Fortant de France Cabernet Sauvignon in an 18.7 cl environmentally-friendly PET bottle.


Singapore Airlines: Fortant de France varietal wines are being served in Economy together with the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon on Singapore Airlines. Passengers will also be able to discover the 2009 Fortant de France Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon from 2011.

Qatar Airways is now pouring Skalli’s 2008 Syrah Fortant de France. This is another success story for these


important wines which are already stocked by several other airline companies, including British Midland International which stocks the Merlot and Chardonnay varieties.
