Matt Huhn, director of business devel- opment, ImproMed, says one of the big- gest benefits in integrating management software with diagnostic equipment is being able to build accurate patient files that do not require reams of paper. “The more integrated lab equipment can become, the more comprehensive a medical record a practice can build,” he says. Others agree. “There’s a continual move to having
practices be as paperless or paper-light as possible,” says Dan Holland, director of sales and marketing, AVImark. “With these systems, you can go into
a patient’s medical record and tell the [software] what tests… to run. The sys- tem will then run those tests and tell the software what the results were. “Then, those results are automatically posted to the veterinary medical record. You don’t have to go back in and record that information, which avoids mistakes and saves the time it would take to do that,” he explains.
That also holds true when an office
works with an outside laboratory whose system can talk to the manage- ment software. “Outside reference labs have made
great strides in what we can do with them,” says Holland. “We can send blood work to a lab and have the lab post results, and the management software then downloads those results directly into a patient’s medical record so the vet- erinarian has everything he needs right at his fingertips.”
