SOFT TISSUE SURGERY
Prepubic Urethrostomy and Vaginoplasty in a
Female Cat J Przywara, J Byron, RA Bennett, K Ham, CL Greenfield, K Steele
CASE REPORT A 1-year-old, intact female, domestic shorthaired cat was presented for dysuria resulting from perineal scar- ring subsequent to injuries incurred during a cat fight. A prepubic urethrostomy was performed to manage the dysuria. Eleven months later, the cat was re-presented with a 3-day history of pyrexia and inappetence. A pin- point opening extending 0.5 cm ventral to the anus on midline, exuding a clear discharge, was noted in the perineal region. A contrast fistulogram was performed, and a vaginoperineal fistula was diagnosed. The fistu- lous tract was a result of vulvar stricture from the trauma of the cat fight. A vaginoplasty was performed to create an opening for vaginal secretions. This is the first pub- lished report of a prepubic urethrostomy performed in a female cat.
CARDIOLOGY Uhl’s Anomaly in a
Domestic Shorthair Cat C Quintavalla, E Bossolini, G Rubini, M Tursi
CASE REPORT A 2-year-old, neutered male, domestic shorthair cat was presented for investigation of dyspnea and episodic weakness. Clinical and ultrasonographic features were consistent with right ventricular cardiomyopathy. Patho- logical findings documented Uhl’s anomaly. Although rare, Uhl’s anomaly should be a differential diagnosis for cats with right-sided congestive heart failure. In particu- lar, Uhl’s anomaly could be misdiagnosed as arrhythmo- genic right ventricular cardiomyopathy due to the simi- larity of clinical and echocardiographic findings.
THE POWER OF PRINT
As many of you know, JAAHA is returning to print. But, not only that, you’ll notice these exciting changes to JAAHA as you thumb or click through the debut Jan/Feb 11 issue: • Fresh, new design for the print version • Redesign of the JAAHA home page at
www.jaaha.org *
• Early View (articles online ahead of print) for a timely read of accepted manuscripts
• Future TOCs online for a look at upcoming articles
*JAAHA’s homepage redesign is the first stage of a website makeover to follow later next year.
Behind the redesign is an improved experience for JAAHA’s authors, including:
• Clean, modern layout of figures, tables and text • DOIs (digital object identifiers) assigned to each article for direct citing and linking
• E-proof delivered through online author center for convenience and accuracy
• Reduced time from manuscript acceptance to publication
AAHA member practices and individual veterinarian members will receive one print copy of JAAHA starting in January 2011.
