Looking for a relaxing hobby? Like to work with small things? Then bead weaving using seed beads may be just what you are looking for! Learn about seed beads: quality, uses of different sizes, and finishes. Become familiar with a variety of stringing materials and needle sizes. Start simple, with an easy but beautiful project using the picot stitch to make a zigzag chain bracelet or necklace. Tools are provided for use in class. Learn the popular new style of making a leather wrapped bracelet using beads, silk thread, and leather cord, with a special button closure. Make it elegant or rustic. Get guidance on selecting beads, flattering proportions, and design tips. Learn about jewelry pliers and using the right tool for the job. Class project is to make several unique pairs of earrings. Enhance your jewelry making skills with a variety of fun techniques using bezels to make charms, pendants, and more. Learn step by step how to create one-of-a-kind designs using resin, scrapbooking paper, found objects, special mementos, and other cool mixed media. Bring items from home to add to class materials. Master resin basics such as proper mixing, application, and curing using a non-toxic resin. Tools provided for use in class. A $25 materials fee (cash only) will be collected in class.

Perhaps you’ve bought some beads and wire, and then said to yourself, “what now?” This class will take the mystery out of bead stringing. You’ll learn important foundational technique of crimping and how to finish your jewelry with a secure, professional look. You’ll learn about bead stringing wire, crimps, beads, and the right tools for the job. Take home an elegant floating necklace and coordinating earrings. Tools provided for use in class. Beginner and intermediate levels. A $25 materials fee (cash only) will be col- lected in class.


JEWELRY: KNOTTING 101 Location: Room 809 at Escondido Education Center Saturday: January 21, 2012 Instructor: Laura Souder

In this hands-on stamping class, you will learn to write your initials and special messages onto copper jewelry blanks. You will make highly personalized art charms as you learn to wield a 1-pound hammer onto a small anvil to make your letter impressions. You’ll have the choice of hanging your stamped pendants along with added crystal beads onto a ball chain necklace, make them into earrings, or connect your blanks together to make a charm bracelet. You will also learn simple wire wrapping skills to connect the charms. A $25 materials fee (cash only) will be collected in class.

Learn the traditional technique used to knot pearls with silk thread. In class make a project to give you practice and help you get comfortable with knotting. Use your new skill at home to knot a bracelet or neck- lace, or try knotting just a portion of a jewelry design to give it unexpected interest. Tools are provided for use in class.
