Learn some of the “SECRETS” from a pro! Digital cameras and digital photography are becoming a must in our society. Someone must document spe- cial moments that will be remembered forever.... that someone is YOU. You will begin with the basic fundamentals of learning about your camera, and what it can do for you. You will then be taken through the Basic 6 steps of Good Photography. The instructor will analyze each step with you. In the computer lab, you will download your photos and learn to make adjustments to enhance your photos. You will be amazed how quickly the uncertainty of taking photos disappears and how remarkable the photos appear to others. This class is designed to be “hands-on” with a maximum amount of “feed-back”. When you leave this class, you will be confident in: *Using your digital camera; *Downloading images and making basic adjustments to photos; *Applying the 6 basic rules of photography; *Sending emails with your photos attached. The last hour of class will be dedicated to specific question/answers regarding your camera.


SEWING


FUN WITH YOUR SERGER SEWING MACHINE Location: Room 808 at Escondido Education Center Saturday: February 11, 2012 Instructor: Monti Ladd

Join instructor Monti Ladd for a fun day getting acquainted with the won- derful things you can do with your serger sewing machine. You will learn different stitches and sewing applications while getting familiar with operat- ing your serger with ease instead of frustration. The end result is your very own custom designed pajamas completely made with your serger sewing machine! Please remember to bring your machine! It’s hard to let go of your favorite top or pair of pants, even when they are worn out! This class teaches you how to make a pattern based on your favor- ite garment--without destroying it. You will learn proper placement of your garment to paper, transferring seam lines, and how to check accuracy of your new pattern. Make as many tops or pants as you desire, knowing you will love the fit just like the original! A $10 (cash only) materials fee will be collected in class. MAKING HATS FOR FUN Location: Room 812 at Escondido Education Center 2 Thursdays: March 15 & 29, 2012 Instructor: Diane Carlson

A hat with style is more than just an accessory--it is a mood, an image, even a state of mind. A hat can pull together an entire outfit and let you express your true fashion personality. Learn millinery techniques to make two headpieces (a pillbox and a “fascinator”) from start to finish; and then embellish them to become your very own crowning glory! Please bring scissors, pins, pencil, ruler, tape measure, sewing needle and thread to class. $20 (cash only) materials fee will be collected at first class.

Do you have a closet full of clothes that are too good to give away - but not quite wearable, either? Maybe the parts are too long, or the hem of the skirt is coming out. Or, you’ve lost a few pounds and your favorite skirt doesn’t hang right anymore. If you think the only way to recover these “lost” clothes is to use an expensive tailoring service, think again. This class will teach you how to do both hand- and machine-sewn hems, simple alterations and minor repairs that will put those gently used clothes back in service. Students should bring the items they would like to alter or mend, basic sewing supplies (list can be downloaded at www.palomar.edu click on “handouts”).

Have you experienced going to the beach in your new, expensive bikini only to find the girl who looks like a super model wearing the same bikini? Have you found the bikini bottom that fits just right, but the top is all wrong? The solution is making your own original, custom fit bikini. The bonus is you can make it for a fraction of the cost of a store bought bikini. This class will provide you with a basic pattern and show you how to adjust it to your personal fit. You will also learn how to select fabric and trim for your bikini, and many of the techniques used to sew a fabulous bikini in less than one day. All of this can be accomplished on your basic home sewing machine. If you own a serger sewing machine, making a bikini can be even easier! A $10 (cash only) materials fee will be collected in class. QUILTING – IRISH CHAIN (BEGINNER) Location: Inspirations Quilt Shop, 27350 Valley Center Rd., Valley Center 6 Tuesdays: January 17 – February 21, 2012 Instructor: Janice Smith

Learn to quilt by making a Single Irish Chain throw quilt with optional Semi- nole border. Learn the basic 9-patch block and how it becomes a stunning quilt when combined with a focus fabric block. This class will reinforce basic sewing skills for the beginner quilter. Basic sewing supplies and a sewing machine are required for class. Call the instructor (760-751-9400) for fabric requirements for this project if you would like to purchase fabric before the first class (not required). Please bring these tools to class: rotary cutter with new blade; acrylic ruler 6” x 24”; straight pins; small scissors; sewing machine (limited number available in classroom); thread (neutral color works best).
