In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of painting in acrylics. In addi- tion, you will explore the exciting, new Chroma Atelier Interactive Acrylics which enable you to blend and unlock the product, making it workable for a much longer time. The colors are vibrant and “juicy”. You will experiment with texture and palette knives, thinning product to watercolor consistency, and treating it almost like an oil. Chroma Atelier Interactive Acrylic product is included with the price of this class; instructor will distribute. BASIC MOSAICS - CREATE A FRAME OR GARDEN TURTLE Location: Rm 700 at Escondido Education Center

This is a beginner’s class in the art of mosaic making, but it is also for those wishing to further their skills on 3D surfaces. Choice of bases, adhesives, mosaic materials, tools and grouting will be covered. A small frame or cement turtle for the garden will be designed and decorated with your choice of broken china, stained glass, glass tiles, shells and more. A $25 materials fee (cash only) will be collected in class.

Learn special techniques needed to make fused glass pieces suitable for jew- elry making. This class will cover basic glass cutting and students will learn how to make cabochons, use findings and inclusions. These techniques can be used to make bracelets, earrings, pendants and more! A $20 materials fee (cash only) will be collected in first class, plus consum- able glass for weekly projects - on-site sales available for dichroic, findings and clear fusible glass.


HOT GLASS PAPERWEIGHT MAKING Location: Room C-4 at Palomar College San Marcos

This introductory class for the complete novice is both fun and exciting. Stu- dents will be introduced to the safe workings of hot shop tools and equipment and then be instructed in the basic skills needed to make a solid glass object. Gathering, marvering and tool usage will be discussed and taught. We will provide color and decoration techniques for your projects. In this 20-hour class you will learn to create your own personal Hot Glass Paperweights. This can be a great way to become familiar with the inner workings of a glassblowing shop and will help build basic skills needed to move into the world of hot glass. Students must wear closed-toed shoes, long sleeves, long pants made out of natural fibers like cotton (no synthetics), and bring your own personal eye protection (we will provide safety glasses if needed). A $30 materials fee will be collected in the first class.


MIXED MEDIA: COLLAGE ANGEL SCULPTURE Location: Room 812 at Escondido Education Center 2 Saturdays: February 4 & 11, 2012 Instructor: Erin Butson

This class will introduce students to kiln firing glass techniques and procedures. Designed for beginners and returning students, participants will get a total of 3 full fuses and 2 slumps kiln time ($150 value). Students will learn glass cutting skills and kiln firing techniques that will produce slumped glass and a variety of fused glass. These techniques can make a wide range of projects, such as: plates, bowls, candy dishes, candle holders, jew-


elry, and an infinite array of art pieces. Molds and kiln usage will be provided by the instructors for the duration of the class. Glass cutting tools and com- patible glass must be purchased by the students. These finished projects and techniques can be used in other mediums like mosaics, stained glass, etc. $20 materials fee (cash only) payable to the instructor will be collected in first class, plus consumable glass for weekly projects - on-site sales available.

Mixed media and paper arts are more popular than ever, and this is your chance to learn from an expert. You’ll make a beautiful and unique sculpted angel while learning basic mixed media collage and sculpture techniques. You’ll learn how to use a variety of materials, create an armature, use paper mache, use paperclay, create collage by layering paper and paint, and add details using a variety of materials. OIL PAINTING - BEGINNING Location: Room 700 at Escondido Education Center 5 Wednesdays: January 18 – February 15, 2012 Instructor: Holly Hertig

In this class, students will learn to use oils as a medium of expression. Important tips on stretching and saving oil, how to do an underpainting, glazing with transpar- ent color, putting on opaque paint, and glosses and var- nishes that seal a painting with matte or shine. Class will combine demonstration with individual coaching and cri- tiquing. All you need is paints, brushes and canvas of your choice and a photo you want to work from.
