JAGUAR F-PACE – THE CAT THAT’S GOT THE CREAM
n this issue we review the highly impressive Jaguar F-Pace and celebrate Jaguar’s long-awaited prowl onto the SUV arena. When our test model arrived, the whole team rushed outside to get the first glimpse of this new style of thinking from the great British brand. And we weren’t disappointed in the least. Aesthetically this is a vehicle with real presence. The F-Pace is high and wide, with a delicious and subtly sloping bonnet, which ends with the assertive and hungry-looking front grille. It has great ride-height and lots of highly distinctive features, like the tail-light and headlamp configurations, which slide beneath and around the bonnet and boot openings. Yet it’s still distinctively Jaguar, no one else could put a badge on this great car. As we climbed aboard we were also delighted

by the passenger cabin, an ingenious blend of tradition, legacy and the very latest technology. For example, there’s the configurable interior mood lighting which creates a rich visual effect and a relaxing atmosphere for all occupants, highlighting details with soft pools of light in a choice of ten different colours. And there’s a huge amount of room: in the back, leg and knee room are 945mm and 65mm respectively, comfortable space for three adults. As a Jaguar the F-Pace of course has sports in its DNA and delivers superb performance powered by an amazing range of engines, including the responsive 2.0 litre 4-cylinder 250PS
Turbocharged Petrol, a new, more powerful 2.0 litre 4-cylinder 300PS Turbocharged Petrol, and the high-powered 3.0 litre V6 380PS Supercharged Petrol. F-PACE is also available with a range of diesel engines including the efficient 2.0 litre 4-cylinder 163PS Turbocharged Diesel engine, on the model we tested, which can achieve up to 59.2mpg and combined CO2 emissions as low as 126g/km. It also achieves 0-60 acceleration in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 121 mph. One bright February morning, before the Beast from the East had roared its icy rage across southern England, we had business in Brighton, and after circling Elmers End we made our way down via the M23 and A23, digressing a little through the windy B roads of Balcombe and Cuckfield, and on all road surfaces and at all speeds our F-Pace demonstrated agile handling, outstanding ride comfort and a power delivery that was as smooth as it was certain.
