Holland & Barrett acquires fit-tech start-up Avie to expand beyond retail


UK Holland & Barrett (H&B) has acquired start-up Avie as it looks to create personalised wellness services for its customers. The UK retailer will integrate the fitness firm’s technology – which uses activity data and behavioural science – into its existing digital services. The aim is to create “personalised wellness solutions” for its shoppers that go beyond retail. “Avie’s simple nudges based on biometrics have shown real promise in helping its users to improve their lifestyles,” said Tamara Rajah, Chief Business and Science Officer at H&B. “We want to become a trusted partner to help people


achieve their health and wellness goals – and to do that we want to offer simple ways to test, track and improve their health, built on our 150 years’ experience in health and nutrition.” As part of the deal, Avie co-founders Charlie Leggate and Kit Logan will join H&B’s Wellness Futures team. “Many people who want to be healthier constantly try to make positive changes, but the fit-tech market is not accessible to all,” commented Leggate. “We take a fresh approach by combining years of recorded health and fitness data with the details of a user’s lifestyle to create an entirely personalised experience.”


CLINIQUE SIGNS ACTRESS MARSAI MARTIN AS PARTNER PRODUCER


US Clinique has named US actress and producer Marsai Martin as its latest ambassador and first-ever Partner Producer. The 18-year-old Black-ish star will partner with the brand across multiple creative projects, including storytelling and photography roles, to engage Gen Z consumers. Clinique hopes that Martin’s experience and creative vision will enable it to reach and connect with a wider range of beauty fans, according to the brand. “We are thrilled to welcome Marsai as a Clinique brand ambassador and first-ever Partner Producer,” said Michelle Freyre, President, Global Brands at Clinique and Origins. “Her confidence and creative intellect truly embodies Clinique’s brand values.”


J&J continues to own more than 90% of Kenvue’s shares. The deal is said to be the largest IPO to launch across any industry since the electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive listed its shares on Nasdaq in late 2021.

US Ariana Grande’s beauty brand r.e.m. beauty has announced new investors, led by private investment firm Sandbridge Capital. The investment also includes participation from Strand Equity and long term Grande collaborators HYBE America, Live Nation Entertainment and Universal Music Group. r.e.m. beauty said it would use the undisclosed sum to optimise its potential via continued product innovation, talent acquisition and


geographic expansion. Founded by the Grammy


Award-winning singer in 2021, r.e.m. beauty specialises in ‘clean’ and vegan products. Bestsellers include its Lustrous Liquid Eyeshadows and Essential Drip Lip Oils.
