Richter Optik Gunlight & Illuminator Kit

Brand new to the market, the Richter Optik Gunlight + Illuminator Kit is now officially launched by top UK wholesaler John Rothery Wholesale. T&G caught up with Claire Haskett, marketing executive at Rothery’s, to find out more…

T

ell us about the Richter Optik brand

“The Richter Optik brand is our own brand, owned solely by John Rothery Wholesale. It will already be familiar to many retailers for the range of Richter Optik riflescopes. Richter Optik is the brand for good quality, extremely user-friendly products which offer both excellent value for money for the consumer as well as great margins for retailers.”

So why a new gunlight kit?? 1

Rothery’s Claire Haskett and Leon Wan Tu are the driving force

pushing the brand forwards.

“Over the years we have distributed a few gunlight kits from top global brands. However, as these brands weren’t focused on the gun trade, products were discontinued out of our control or not entirely fit for the purpose of shooting. It was more a case of oh, here’s a really powerful light that you could use on top of a rifle. The fact that it was a tool for shooters

would often come as an afterthought. So we flipped that mentality on its head and designed a product which is for shooters first, but has secondary uses too as a general flashlight/torch. The focus for us was always to have a product which has shooters’ needs as its priority.”

Wow, you know a lot about the new gunlight kit Claire!

“That’s because it’s my baby! We knew we needed something in our range to fill that gap in the market and it’s something I’ve personally been pushing for, for a while now. So the project was given to me firstly to keep me quiet I think! As the internally-nominated “torch geek”, the entire project including all research and development was passed on to me. I arranged for the product to be developed, and our newly-appointed marketing assistant Leon Wan Tu has a

lot of experience in packaging design which was really helpful! The result is a product I’m really proud to put my name (and my job!) behind, and I’m confident retailers and consumers will find it fits the bill.”

So how did you approach this challenge?

“As I say, we really wanted to develop our own product which we control and is targeted to shooters in the first instance. I’m an air gunner myself, so for me I was also keen to ensure the product met the needs of not only long- range rabbit/fox control but also closer- range ratting and airgun pest control. When the first few units were sent out to our external partners for testing, I was keen to get their opinion on the product’s suitability for air gunners too. Thankfully they all agreed with me that it was more than up to the task which was very reassuring!”
