here’s a new venue and new name for the show formerly known as the Northern Angling Show.
of reasons including the economy, shotgun and firearm certificate issues and a lack of exhibitors for the reasons. A statement on social media from the organiser said: “This is not a decision taken lightly, and is really not what we want to do but sadly circumstances denote it. As a show we are down over a third of exhibitors this year with only weeks away from the show. “I think a number of factors have lead to this situation after speaking to many people involved in the UK firearms industry. The situation within the UK and the murders in Plymouth in 2021 have led to police forces undergoing a very strict review of granted certificates and firearm certificate owners are now waiting up to 18 months to have simple amendments to their licences changed, a process that would normally take 6 weeks. “Due to this gun dealers and companies involved in the firearms business are not selling anything near
the amount of stock that they were even over the pandemic period, that is if they can get the stock in the first place. “In addition, globally there is a dramatic decrease in shooting related items coming into the UK and lots of dealers can’t get stock from the US and Europe. I think the US firearms market, the war in Ukraine and the UK leaving the EU have all impacted this. “Lastly we think a lot of people in the
UK are deeply concerned about energy bills for their homes and family this winter and people are just looking to save money fearing a bleak winter with record high inflation and interest rates. People are not buying what’s regarded as luxury items or non-essentials, which sporting goods clearly are.”
BASC gets new Royal Patron
The new Northern Carp Show will feature the biggest brands and retailers in the carp fishing industry, a massive retail element and a custom built theatre for the very best carpy entertainment. The Northern Carp Show will take place at Bowler’s Exhibition Centre, Manchester, on the 25th and 26th February 2023.
A spokesperson for the event said: “After nine incredible years at Event city we are sad to say our time at the venue has come to an end, in fact it will be demolished very soon. An incredible journey that we would like to thank you all for being a part of! “We have confirmed a new venue and have designed a brand new concept to work within this exciting space. It will be slightly more intimate than the NAS we all know but still a huge event absolutely packed with the best carp brands and retailers. Situated just a mile from our spiritual home Event City, our new venture feels right at home already. If you love carp fishing this is THE event to visit in 2023.”
