an you tell us a little about the firm’s history?
Sportsmatch UK Ltd was formed in 1972 by my father John Ford. John sadly passed away in 2015. The company was actually set up as J&J Ford Ltd but back in 1994 we changed the name to Sportsmatch. We felt it didn’t reflect our strong brand and registered trade mark of Sportmatch. It also caused some confusion as everyone knows Sportsmatch but not J&J Ford Ltd.
So how did you get into all of this? In the early days there were no good quality reasonably priced scope mounts on the market. The Japanese versions would ‘creep’ and the German versions were very expensive and difficult to get hold of. So John designed and produced his own. He was a competitive air rifle shooter and won several national competitions. Back in 1982 I was the National Junior Field Target Champion, so we felt that we knew what we were after!
