uperyachts represent, even to the richest of owners, a significant investment. Whatever

rigorous financial management, the necessary and ever more increasingly complicated aspect of safety management, the setting up and tracking of SOPs to general administrative tasks.
A major hurdle for most senior crew and especially captains is that they are seeing their ‘day job’ being swamped by paperwork. The advantage of good yacht management software to the yacht’s captain is not dissimilar to those of the owner, in that they need this to be intuitive, relatively easy to process and time efficient, so they can deliver the onboard experience that they are employed to do. Efficient ISM / ISPS management systems, financial management systems, planned maintenance, inventory systems, these all save the captain an incredible amount of time compared to where we were some years ago.
More regulations are coming What is fast becoming apparent is the fact that there are more regulations coming into our industry. The focus will undoubtedly be on compliance, transparent financial management and safety. As these come into force so the role of the captain and senior crew will be flooded with more paperwork, so they need a method of robust support. Rules and regulations for Flag and Class, fiscal and the coastal states are complex. Specialist superyacht management software ensures that a yacht is being well maintained,
operated and administered, leaving the captain and crew time to do their job and make sure the owners enjoy their time on board with family and friends.
But where do we start and what do we need to know in terms of yacht management software? ONBOARD Magazine took the chance to jump on a zoom with David Clarke from Superyacht Operating Systems to dig deep into the main points one needs to consider when selecting a software system to streamline and enhance the operation of a superyacht. Based on over three decades of experience operating, building and managing large yachts, plus countless discussions with industry peers, the team have developed a suite of products for each area of the yacht’s operation.
David explains, “We aim to provide owners and crew with a better way to achieve quality operations by transforming the way Standard Operating Procedures are set up and carried out. We aim to empower crew and personnel with reliable tools and expert knowledge to help them perform daily tasks at a higher level.
Our goal is to create a system where owners can relax and enjoy themselves because they know their crew have a solid system in place that ensures smooth operation. A system where crew can personalise expert templates to create Owner-specific systems for service, care, safety and operations. A system where owners don’t have to pay semi-experienced crew to create semi-expert procedures.”
But just as legislation changes so does software and updates are always at the front of David’s mind. Just over three years ago the team created the Luxe App SOP System. David explains, “It’s simple, we knew it made no sense for individual owners to pay crew (or managers) to research and produce procedures
