EXECUTIVE REPORT

KDM INVESTS IN CABIN FACILITIES

KDM Hire has moved its accommodation and storage division, K Cabin, to a four-acre purpose-built facility at Kilcronagh Business Park on the outskirts of Cookstown, close to the company’s headquarters. The depot provides logistics, storage and maintenance facilities

for over 2,000 cabin and toilet products alongside engineering, manufacturing, repair, shot blasting and refurbishment activities. It includes a 16m-long commercial spray booth, while joinery and engineering departments can undertake the manufacture and modification of cabins and furniture accessories. K Cabin’s MD Michael Donnelly said, “Considerable effort is taken to ensure our equipment is provided in the highest quality

condition. Items can now be repaired, re-manufactured and re-painted to exacting standards by the experienced team of engineers at this state-of-the-art facility.” The relocation has, in turn, freed up space at

KDM’s head office depot, allowing significant re-development of the six- acre site. Investment is currently ongoing to enhance training facilities, workshops, wash bays and an upgrade to the spares department, which can now store over 15,000 different spares for the hire fleet. KDM Hire was a winner in our 2019 Passionate Hirer Awards - see the article beginning on page 20.

Phoenix rises with Snorkel

Phoenix Hire & Sales has expanded its powered access fleet with an order for Snorkel S3219E and S3226E electric scissor lifts. The deal also includes the hirer’s first compact rough terrain scissor, the S3370RT, and its first towable boom lift, the TL37J. These machines join S3010P and A46JRT models already in the fleet.

The machines, which are all manufactured in the UK by Snorkel, were handed

over to Phoenix’s Sales, Marketing & IT Director, Jason Derraven (pictured left), by Snorkel UK’s Scott Holtby. The hirer has six branches throughout South Wales.

JCB skid steers head for Diggerland

A fleet of twenty-four JCB135 skid steers are among the latest attractions in a special driving experience for children at the four Diggerland theme parks in Kent, Devon, Durham and Yorkshire. The deal, said to be worth

£650,000, continues a long- standing relationship between the manufacturer and Diggerland, which was launched in 2000 by H.E. Services Chairman, Hugh Edeleanu. Visitors to the fun parks can also drive JCB’s iconic 3CX

backhoe loader, ride in the ‘Groundshuttle’ - a JCB 540-140 telescopic handler with 15 seats - and be elevated to a height of 18m in the larger 540-180 model.

4 The generators are primarily from Pramac and

FG Wilson, and incorporate a broad range of node sizes from 20kVA up to 500kVA. Lisa Blake, Specialist Services Director at Speedy, says the investment will reduce the average age of the hire fleet and ensure that customers benefit from products complying with the latest Stage V engine emissions standards. All Speedy’s multi-service centres are now equipped

with fuel polishers. Project Manager Mark Tomlin said, “Since the installation of our first fuel polisher in Erith, we have experienced a 75% reduction in fuel-related breakdowns.” Once cleaned, the fuel can be delivered in a new fleet of IBC fuel tanks.

Speedy’s power generation investment

Speedy Hire has announced a £10m investment in new equipment and vehicles for its power generation business. This includes more than 250 generators, over 350 on-site fuel tanks and 15 fuel tankers.
