EXECUTIVE HIRE SHOW REVIEW

Industry “in great shape”

EHN caught up with a number of hirers at the Show to find out what caught their eye and what they got out of their visit.

Stuart Parker from Parker Tool Hire I bought another pressure washer

from The Hire Supply Company, having purchased one at last year’s Show. It has proved very reliable and is a well-designed, cost-effective unit. I also purchased some more items from DART including diamond blades and consumables, as well as some new work gloves they have introduced which have a thermal lining as well as being waterproof - it is unusual to find these with both qualities. I am going to be buying an Eliet Major

garden shredder from PSD/Ready4Rent, and I got quotes from a number of the van and trailer manufacturers exhibiting. One of the great things about the Show is that it allows you to speak face-to-face

with the senior management from manufacturers. I went with a number of questions about certain products and ideas, and was able to get the information I needed directly. I also really enjoyed the Party on the Wednesday evening and I got talking to a lot of suppliers there.

David Hargreaves from Clee Hill Plant Hire, left, with Alan Batty of Bomag (GB)

“ We are expanding our fleet of Bomag BMP 8500

remote-controlled multi-purpose compactors which eliminate risks associated with HAV and enhances on-site Health & Safety. In particular, we are adding more equipment for our depot in Newton Abbot which we opened last year. Demand for machines is proving strong both there and at our other locations nationwide, being driven particularly by the housing market. Regardless of the B-word [Brexit], the construction

industry, and particularly housing, is remaining resilient and we are growing to meet the demand from contractors.

Neil Bravery, centre, of Skipton Hire Centres, with Richard Palmer, left, and Andrew McCarthy

“ The Executive Hire Show is a fantastic

event for all hirers to touch base with their key suppliers. You can meet fellow colleagues from within the industry and it’s the main event we all look forward too. This year we made a few significant

purchases with Belle, PostPullers, CLM and PSD/Ready4Rent. We felt the Show was as busy as ever during the two days, which was good to see, especially during the run up to Brexit. It just shows that the hire industry is in great shape for 2019.

Terry Heal from Bradfords Tool Hire

“ As always, Trading Director

Keith Hallam and I enjoyed the Show. It is great to catch up with suppliers old and new in a relaxed atmosphere where we do not have the pressures of day-to-day business playing on our mind. The venue is well-located and the evening event allows you to catch up with old colleagues as well as meeting like-minded hirers. Items that interested us included Altrad Belle’s new BWX 15/250

bowser pressure washer, and Husqvarna’s new 230mm cordless abrasive saw - we see this as an ideal addition that will complement the roofing range carried within our merchant branches. We were also impressed by the M730 post remover from PostPullers: we supply a large number of landscaping contractors within our branch network and this item will be a valuable addition to the hire fleet. In addition, we looked at GRP towers, mobile access platforms and

conveyors. Also of interest was the virtual reality V-Hire training platform from the HAE.

Tim Garland, right, with Gavin Butterfield from Elvington Plant Hire

“ Another great Show, although sadly we

missed the evening Party and Passionate Hirer Awards due to commitments elsewhere on the Wednesday. We were particularly impressed with

Altrad Belle’s new bowser pressure washer and immediately put an order in for one, along with some more concreting equipment which complements our existing fleet. We’ve also ordered a large quantity of Niftylift machines to strengthen our powered access fleet as we expand further into this market. We lined up some deals with Hilti for some of their new models which we just wouldn’t have seen if we hadn’t attended the exhibition. The Show dates are already in the diary for 2020.

MOVING FORWARD WITH CONFIDENCE
