EXECUTIVE HIRE SHOW REVIEW
Brimful of innovation
With every available inch of stand space filled by 190 exhibitors, this year’s Show had plenty of new products aimed at hire fleets. Dan Jenkins, Nick Johnson and Alan Guthrie report on some of the latest launches.
AJC EasyCabin steps on the gas
AJC EasyCabin literally took the wraps off its new product only when the Show opened. The unveiling revealed a model from a range of EcoSmart Zero welfare cabins powered by a combination of a hydrogen gas fuel cell and solar panels. This is said to give
almost totally silent operation with water vapour being the only by-product, making it suitable for sites such as those in low emission zones. The gas is readily available from local suppliers
and the fuel cell only requires periodic replacement of air filters. There are no moving parts and no risk of ground contamination from fuel spills.
01582 486663 Connect with Stihl
Stihl showed its Smart Connector device, which provides accurate information on hours of use to monitor workers’ exposure to HAV, and to ensure timely servicing of equipment to minimise wear and tear. Linking to a smartphone via Bluetooth, users can view power tool
data via an app or on the web. The Stihl Connect Pro portal provides an overview of the locations of all equipment and gives information on the timing of maintenance. The manufacturer also
displayed a new range of mowers, including the RM655RS, designed with the UK homeowner’s love of striped lawns in mind. Improvements over the Viking MB655RV it replaces include a metal rear roller and fold-down mono-handle.

Brendon targets dust
Brendon Powerwashers’ innovative Dustec DT400 is a dust suppression unit driven solely by water from a pressure washer, with no electrical supply being necessary. It can be used with
any pressure washer producing 100 to 250 bar at flow rates of 12 to 25 litres per minute, and a turbine drives a fan to create and project a fine mist. Excess water is fed back via a return hose to be recycled, and the DT400 can be positioned up to 75m away from the host machine.

The quiet life for Makinex
Makinex’s 10kVA Portable Generator is claimed to be the most compact on the market when it comes to output. Providing single and three-phase capabilities, it is rated from 10A to 32A capacity. The company showed
an early prototype last year, but the production model is now housed in a casing which dampens noise down to 68.4dB at 6m, or 67.1dB at 7m with an 80% load. Mounted on a trolley and weighing just 155kg, it is designed to
be easily manoeuvrable by hand and also easy to transport in a van or pick-up truck. Standard features include a lifting point and RCD earth protection, as well as RCBO surge protection for both machine and user.
