STAND G40 H40 GREEN FOR GO

MHM needs little introduction, being big supporters of the Executive Hire Show and taking one of the largest stands at the event, but what are they planning for EHS 2023 we wondered…

M

HM Group Sales Director Brad Ireland is now a familiar face at the Executive

Hire Show, certainly talking the good talk about the MHM product range during our brief call. A bit of verbosity and subject knowledge goes a long way with your author, so we dive right into the questioning. How has 2022 been for the company?

“It’s been a different sort of year, obviously coming out of COVID, with what’s been going on in the world right now and the challenges of material shortages, shipping and supply chain issues. However, with our diversity of products and the way that we operate, it’s been a great year for us – we exceeded our targets and expectations, and we’ve never had a better year in terms of our revenue.”

Supply chain issues continue to be a problem, although lessening. How was MHM affected?

“We experienced supply chain issues, in getting hold of certain materials and components. Our good stockholding helped us through this, even if lead times were slightly extended, but this made us appreciate the importance of forward thinking and planning, and then making sure that our suppliers and customers are kept informed, so they can plan accordingly.”

I really liked how your stand was split at the 2022 show, with one half for the core range and the other dedicated to your eco products. How is demand changing for solar, hybrid and battery powered equipment?

“I don’t think that the more traditional products will disappear, but the demand for greener products has definitely increased this year. I think there are a couple of reasons for this – the heightened importance of ESG concerns as well as the cost impact of the fuel price increases earlier this year.”

With all of that in mind, what have been your most popular products this year?

“It’s hard to pick one, as there’s probably a few. However, one of machines that really stood out for me is the 5.5m solar ‘Street Lite’. People are realising that it’s not just one size fits all where lighting is concerned – you don’t always need a nine metre lighting tower – and now they’re considering greener options.

The ST-9 lighting tower and the solar 'Street Lite'.

Customer satisfaction is certainly a focus for the Executive Hire Show. Last question, then – what are you planning for EHS 2023?

“Another star performer is our solar hybrid generator range, which offer rental companies an all-in-one, more economical solution. The engine and solar panels support the battery, but the machine operates much like traditional equipment. On board telematics is particularly important, in providing information about machine performance and the environmental savings. I believe that a lot of construction sites are over-specced, so telematics can really help users understand what is needed, as well as in the transition from traditional equipment. The data is all there in black and white.”

Specifying correctly and managing the power supply are certainly important, in terms of lowering emissions. Is telematics in most of your equipment nowadays?

Solar/hybrid generators go from 3.5 to 20kVa.

“It’s in most of the equipment in our rehire fleet, and it’s either built-in or available as an option in the other product ranges, or if a customer asks for it.”

“We’ve got the two stands again for this year. So one for traditional machinery – we will have Stage V equipment on display, as well as diesel-driven machinery and lighting towers. On the eco stand we will be pushing forward with our latest models. We will still highlight the fact that we have the right equipment to suit our customers’ needs, but we want to emphasise that other, greener solutions are available and that we’re ready to be part of that journey with them.”

Well, hooray for the customer focus – and MHM has certainly been pushing the ecological agenda with its product range for some time now. There will be no missing the company at the show, as their stands are the first thing you’ll see when entering through the main arena doors, so be sure to stop and say hello. n

SOLAR WIND Traditional equipment is still great, but be sure to check out the MHM eco range too. See all MHM products on stands G40 and H40.
