JPS eyes a greener future JPS Platforms has taken a major step towards becoming an even more

sustainable company, by expanding its already 70% eco-friendly fleet. JPS has rightly recognised the impact that plant equipment has on the

construction industry’s carbon footprint, and is increasing its electric fleet as it looks to implement more sustainable solutions. Further to its eco ambitions, the company has recently placed significant orders with Skyjack, Niftylift, Dingli, JLG and Genie, for electric and hybrid models. They’ll do for starters. Speaking of the move, JPS MD John Young, said: “We feel we have a

responsibility to ensure we have a fleet of equipment that provides our customers with a clean and sustainable solution for working at height. “The construction industry is one of the main generators of CO2 and so it

is important that we lead the way and show our commitment towards safeguarding the environment. We are very much looking forward to growing our electric fleet and continuing to identify ways that we can play our part in the pathway to carbon net zero.”

the Year Gill Riley OBE, managing director and owner of GGR Group, has become the ‘Woman of the Year’ at the NatWest everywoman Awards 2022. The award recognises a successful career in construction plant

hire, noting Gill’s eye for innovation and the successful introduction of a range of specialist lifting equipment into the UK construction sector. In sourcing equipment from overseas and working with

manufacturers to make these products suitable for the UK market, Gill has also been involved in liaising with trade bodies to support these innovations with training and improved industry standards. This approach has seen her recognised with an OBE for services to construction in 2015 and the Queens Awards for Enterprise: International Trade in 2016. Accepting her award, Gill said: “It’s been quite an emotional

year. I’d like to thank my family, my mother and all my friends, the fabulous team who work in my company and the amazing women who are here today. I’m absolutely overwhelmed.” The everywoman Awards shine a spotlight on the inspiring

female founders whose creativity and resilience will help the UK weather the current economic turmoil. The awards are open to any female business owner – whether they are part of a limited company, a sole trader or work in partnership with others. The awards celebrate the woman behind the business, her personal successes and achievements, and how she individually inspires others.

Rob Oliver makes the grade Rob Oliver, who retired as the chief executive of the CEA in 2021,

has been awarded an MBE in the King’s first New Year’s honours list. The Award of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

was made in recognition of his services to the construction equipment manufacturing sector. He remains active in the industry as an executive director of construction equipment events ltd (CEE) which will be delivering the fifth PLANTWORX show at the East of England Arena & Events Centre in Peterborough on June 13-15. In his time with the CEA, Rob helped develop and deliver

the CESAR plant marking and registration scheme, as well as its extension to cover on site emissions compliance verification (ECV). In recognition of his work with the police to combat plant theft, he has also given his name to a special annual award to police forces that have shown a special commitment to anti-theft campaigning. He also put together the organisation for the first PLANTWORX (in 2013) and developed the concept of a construction equipment technology event which became the first FUTUREWORX showcase and conference in March 2022. In response to news of his award, Rob Oliver said: “What a nice

surprise to kick off 2023. It has been a privilege to work with both paid officials and volunteers for the CEA on the various projects we undertook over the years – and great credit should go to them. In my career, I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with senior people in a number of industries which has given me a ringside seat to the workings of British and international business. However, I am still looking forward, including offering a great showcase for construction equipment innovation and technology at PLANTWORX 2023”.
