fter being stunned at the size and scale of the Wirtgen stand at the Bauma
exhibition in Munich, we were keen to find out what the company was planning for their modest stand at our little show. Likewise, how such a massive corporation with global production facilities intends to meet its environmental targets.
Firstly, 2022 has not been without its challenges – ongoing materials shortages, shipping woes, rising costs and such. How’s current trading and have your prices or lead times been affected at all?
“We here at the Wirtgen Group also still have to react with flexibility to the changing underlying conditions. In this context, our high level of vertical integration at all of our factories continues to pay off. Thanks to our dedicated employees, we have so far succeeded in maintaining the ability to deliver product and service solutions in the best possible way, enabling us to remain a reliable partner for our customers, even under the current conditions.”

The Executive Hire Show is on a rather more modest scale than your stand at the Bauma expo, so what machinery will you be bringing?
“The Hamm HD12eVO – the world’s first e-combination roller which is being shown the UK for the first time after its debut at Bauma Munich 2022.”
Hamm is pushing forward with hybrid and electric tech. How have you seen the demand changing for such equipment, and
Is the company planning to launch other electric machinery that might be suitable for the UK hire sector – if so, what and when?
“The European market launch of the diesel- powered Vögele mini road pavers is planned for the first half of 2023. The launch of the E-Power machines will follow afterwards.”

“Based on the John Deere 2021 Leap Ambitions and as part of the John Deere C&F Division, Wirtgen Group has set the goal of increasing the availability of battery electric as well as hybrid electric product models by 2026, offering alternative drive technologies ranging from reduced-emission to zero- carbon drive systems, and continuously connecting
manufactured and then shipped worldwide, how will this be achieved?
“Based on the John Deere 2021 Leap Ambitions, Wirtgen Group has committed to achieving a 50% reduction of operational CO₂e emissions (Scopes 1 and 2). In this context, we are using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the internationally acknowledged standard for calculating and controlling our environmental goals.
“The brand headquarters of the Wirtgen Group in Germany and the local production facilities in Brazil, China and India are among the most modern of their kind. The Hamm brand headquarters and the Chinese production facility are already certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.
The HD12e roller will makes its UK debut at the Executive Hire Show.
“Our goal: certification for all Wirtgen Group factories until 2024. What’s more, we continuously invest in measures to reduce resource consumption and optimize workplaces at our factories. For example, we are using
renewable energies such as geothermal energy to heat and
cool the office buildings. Further examples: energy-saving lighting concept, paperless production, noise reduction etc.
You’ve been coming to the Executive Hire Show how for several years, so it’s obviously of value to you. Will we ever see you in the main hall with some slightly larger or different machinery?
“We feel that our current stand enables us to represent our company and products for the hire industry but we may consider expansion in the future.” n
