STAND A30 A CUT ABOVE
Duro Yokota doesn’t just excel in the world of diamond cutting discs and cores, but has exclusive UK rights to the AGP range of equipment.
A
visit to DURO Yokota’s swanky premises last year also turned into a
lesson about the construction and complexities of diamond cutting blades. Put simply, there is far more to them than you might imagine. The technology doesn’t exactly stand still, either, with the company currently developing new blades specifically for battery powered machinery.
This, and an expanding range of exclusive AGP tools, bodes well for their EHS showcase. However, we started with a quick review of the last 12 months – how’s it been?
“It’s been very good – we not only got back to where we were pre-pandemic, but we then exceeded it,” explains Marketing Director, Scott Devonshire. “We’ve done well on both sides of the company – the tools business has been a massive growth area, and the AGP range has also been a success for us.”
Will you be expanding your selection of AGP tools in the year ahead?
“It is growing. We’re bringing in some different core drill motors, which support the new dry concrete cores we’ve developed – matching the core drill body to the drill motor.
“We have access to the whole AGP range, in reality. However, we choose whatever suits our market at the time.”
And is your main range of diamond blades and cores developing at the same time?
“Absolutely – firstly because we want to stay at the forefront of the market, but also because machines themselves are developing. For instance, we have designed a new blade to go with battery-powered equipment, which has rubber inserts in the core to help deaden the noise – it is also thinner, so it has less contact with the material being cut.
“Because we have a close working partnership with our production plant, we can
Duro Yokota is rightly known for diamond cutting discs, but cores are its second biggest sellers.
develop innovative blades such as these quickly – if we see a gap in the market, we know how to design a blade to fill it. Even if it isn’t necessarily going to be sold in tens of thousands initially.
“Cores are our second biggest selling product range and we have developed new systems for completely dust free drilling. For historical dry core drilling, we developed a core with no slots in the barrel so that the dust created can be removed directly at source with the correct drill motor and vacuum system.
“With current wet drilling processes – the water suppresses much of the dust but produces a lot of slurry that eventually turns to dust. Our new heavy duty barrel design, combined with a new dedicated drill motor and M Class vacuum means you don’t need water at all. The vacuum extracts all the dust and stops it being reground it into the cut. This means dust-free cutting speeds similar to wet drilling”
The DURO Yokota depot is one of the first I have visited where a dedicated space has been allocated to building up exhibition stands prior to taking them to tradeshows like ours. You’ve got a slightly larger stand this year, so what are you planning and what will you be bringing?
“We’re taking a larger space because of the ever growing range of core drilling systems,
also because we want to make everything available to view and for people to come and touch and feel – core drilling is going to be a big push for us. We’re also toying with the idea of bringing the dust suppression system and having it running, although one thing that’s putting us off is lifting the concrete test slabs off the back of the truck!
“We’re also bringing a brand new 60L construction site water suppression tank – it’s battery powered, so you won’t need to keep pumping it up. Aside from that, we’ll have all the rigs and core drills set up, and we’ll be doing on- site demos, where we can, to show visitors how the equipment works.”
The new dust suppression tank is battery powered.
Well, that sounds like an excellent plan, and you can be sure of a slick presentation from Scott and the team. Be sure to check them out in the Atrium. n

WELL DRILLED There’s plenty more on the Duro Yokota stand than cutting discs and cores. Meet the team and see the full product range on stand A30.
