Notes fi nd could mean cash boost


QUICKER Demolition & Skips of Burnley could soon be ‘quids-in’ after a site operative, Kevin Ball, sieved through a skip and uncovered thousands of pounds in a box.


The amount – estimated at around £2,000 – was made up of £20 notes, which were in a considerably weathered state.


Mark Hanson, site manager said: “Usually, the waste that arrives to the site is dealt with straight away. But because of Christmas some of the skips sat around the yard, so we were not sure if it came in before or after the Christmas break.


Some of the cash was wet


“We get the odd bit of gold, but nothing as substantial as this - some of them were moth eaten and cut in half. Also a lot of the notes were wet.


“We don’t know how it has come to us but it could have been somebody clearing out a family member’s house who has died, as some elderly people don’t trust banks and keep it under their bed.


“If it had been any other time of year, we’d know exactly where that particular skip had come from.


"We contacted the police who took it to investigate further, and they’re quite happy it’s not from the proceeds of crime.”


A Lancashire Police spokesman said they had received a phone call at 8am on January 5, saying an estimated value of £2000 had been found in a bag.


The money was taken away by police. Quicker Skips may get to keep the haul if nobody comes forward.
