Athleisure is not going anywhere

Activewear is no longer limited to the gym. Wearers of activewear are now choosing to wear such items in an everyday capacity. But why should you jump on the bandwagon?

ears ago it seemed unthinkable that consumers would spend a sizeable amount of money on workout clothes, but the last few years has seen a shift in attitude towards activewear. Now big fashion brands are seeing athleisure as no longer a trend, but as the future of casualwear. Itʼs this shift in opinion that those in the printwear market should take advantage of. Try opening your customersʼ minds to the doors that a pair of leggings or a hoodie can open.

explains: “Athleisure is one of the biggest trends influencing the fashion industry at the moment, bringing the world of style and sports together.


“Styles such as leggings, hoodies and crop tops are becoming more popular to wear out socially and are not just limited to the gym. Athleisure is quickly becoming the new casualwear and has become more than just a trend because it is a complete lifestyle. “This is a great market for businesses to consider selling into to increase profit – and the athleisure trend doesnʼt look like itʼs going anywhere!”


Top screen printing tips for activewear H


ere Dave Roper of Screen Print World provides some expert advice when it comes to screen printing


your customerʼs activewear. Stretch ink


Activewear and performance garments tend to be made from fabrics which provide a lot of stretch.


Therefore, the design on them also needs to be able to stretch. To do this you need an ink that has the ability to flex. Inks, such as our Flex


White, that are elasticated, will stretch with the garment being printed when cured correctly. Like most, you can use this Flex White as an under base and print standards colours on top or just on its own for a white print.


Dye migration


When heat is applied to a garment to cure the ink, dye may bleed from the garment through into the ink. It can appear straight away, but can also appear several days after the garment has been printed.


Typically, this will happen on performance style and heavily dyed garments. For example, when a standard white ink is printed onto a red performance style fabric, the red dye may bleed into the white ink and cause the ink to turn pink. To prevent this use a dye blocking low bleed ink. These types of inks have a blocking agent in them to stop the dye seeping through. You can also use low temperature inks as dye migration is mostly due to the garment disliking the heat needed to cure the ink.
