What’s New: Mantis World
A collection for the whole family W
Mantis World is stepping into 2022 with a raft of new sustainable products for the whole family.
hen it launched the M01 and M02 Essential Organic Ts back in 2020, Mantis
was setting the scene for a new era of organic products.
Complete with ground-breaking QR codes in the label, which when scanned shows the journey and impact of the garments, these T shirts were anything but basic.
Now, Mantis World is expanding the Essentials collection, this time for the whole family.
The range has been designed as a good introduction into the world of sustainable clothing, with something for everyone’s wardrobe.
Starting with the M03 Heavy T, made with 100% OCS certified cotton, a great choice for retail and promo alike. The M04 Essential Hoodie and M05 Essential Sweatshirt are both made from super soft brush back fleece, in a blend of organic cotton and recycled polyester. You’ll find plenty of choice when it comes to colours, with all the classics and fashion-friendly shades available.
Mini-me trend
The mini-me trend isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Social media has only encouraged new parents to match with their little ones, and getting siblings involved too. With this in mind, the new Essentials range also includes styles for kids and babies.
First up in Mantis Kids, the MK04 Kids Essential Hoodie, with all the comfort and style of the adult style. Looking for something smaller? The Babybugz BZ63 Baby Essential Hoodie is perfect for the youngest members of the family. There are also new matching sweatshirts: the MK05 Kids Essential Sweatshirt and the BZ64 Baby Essential Sweatshirt. Mantis World is proud to be one of the few companies in the industry sourcing and manufacturing in Africa, and its Made in Africa collection has seen a huge rise in demand over the last year. The range is getting some new additions for 2022, including the BZ61 Made in Africa Baby T, made with 100% organic Tanzanian cotton. It’s a perfect match to the M104-TLC for

adults, and MK15 for kids. There’s also a fresh twist on the Baby Kimono Bodysuit, a best-selling style now reimagined with long sleeves (BZ60 Baby Long Sleeve Kimono Bodysuit).
Organic cotton
First introduced to the collection in 2005, Mantis was the first in the printwear industry to start using organic cotton. In 2019, the brand successfully switched all the cotton in its production to organic. However, recent global events have led to a shortage in the supply of organic cotton, as well as unprecedented price increases. The current supply of organic cotton globally isn’t enough to keep up with the increased demand from the market. Plus, with more brands and consumers taking steps to find out where their garments are from, human rights abuses in Xinjiang, China and certification fraud in India have shattered consumer confidence in organic cotton coming from those regions. This has put further pressure on an industry that is already stretched to its limit.
When a farm transitions to organic farming methods, they immediately cut out the chemical fertilisers and pesticides that make conventional cotton farming so environmentally damaging; and have stopped using genetically modified seeds. It can take up to three years for a farm to be certified, and the cotton that is grown in the interim is known as in-conversion cotton. Only once certified, farmers can demand a premium for their crop. However, with so many of them already

living day to day, the financial incentive to transition to organic is slim.
From the moment a farmer decides to head down the road towards organic, they are actively making a difference to the environment. Mantis believes that these farmers should be rewarded and paid a fair price for the crop while they transition. This is why Mantis World has chosen to support in-conversion cotton and introduce it across its range. Working with GOTS and OCS, hopefully this can help to bridge the gap in supply and invest in a new generation of organic cotton farmers.
Impact calculator
Since launching its impact calculator in 2020, consumers have been able to see the impact and journey their garment has made. By scanning the QR code on the care label, the wearer is able to see the savings made of water, emissions, pesticides and energy by choosing organic. At a time when traceability is on everyone’s minds, the additional feature to see where and how your garment was made has proven to be popular too. It was launched across a handful of styles last year, and now the QR codes are now being rolled out across the whole range.
Mantis World’s aims are the same today as they have always been – to make premium and long-lasting garments, perfect for decorating, while protecting the environment and all the people in the supply chain who make it possible. Put simply, it’s well-made clothing, made well.
