Ride Profile

Exotic World with the Fun Coaster Tiki Waka – a very colourful family-friendly area with a South Seas theme.
The expansion of Exotic World in 2021 is a step- change in colour palette – it’s darker and moodier and sits somewhat detached from the rest of the park – a bit like an island. It fits perfectly with the overwhelming Kondaa. Visitors cross two impressive bridges to enter a tropical forgotten world. Once they’re on the other side, they are taken on an adventure, where they have to unravel a mysterious legend dating back thousands of years. To create this effect, 40 welders, metalworkers, carpenters and painters worked for around 30,000 hours. 20 tons of steel, 350 tons of mortar and 90 m³ of wood were used in constructing this unique atmosphere.
16 000 trees and plants were brought in, from over 80 different species – 14 of which are super rare to Belgium like the Persian Silk tree and the African Sausage tree. Finally, music and sound design add the final touch to create an unforgettable experience. To reinforce the tribal feeling, an animation at the Kondaa station makes visitors feel like the beast will be unleashed upon them, creating spine-tingling anticipation for the ride. And what a ride it is. 50 metres high, 1200m long, reaching a top speed of 113km/h. During a ride time of approximately one minute, riders experience 15 Airtimes and g-forces of 4.5. No other megacoaster in the world has as many ride elements or airtimes. It took 124 rails, 147 posts, 178 metres of chain and 15,000 bolts to construct, weighing 1600 tonnes in total. Our main attraction is of course Kondaa. However, we wanted to make this area a unique experience for young and old. Therefore, the 4.5 hectare area has also been expanded with a children’s attraction called Kondaala,
a new shop (Kondaa shop) and a themed restaurant called Nsoso. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view from the terrace with Kondaa on one side and Tiki Waka on the other.
Did you face any challenges along the way and if so, how did you overcome them? As with any project, we had to deal with a few unforeseen circumstances, but we always had a plan B or C. The Coronavirus context forced us to interrupt the works for 3 weeks but in the end the project team managed the project masterfully.
On a site of this scale, there are also many technical challenges; technical precision and timing were the biggest challenges in building the attraction.
It was necessary to ensure that the sequences fit together and fit into the schedule: manufacturing, foundations; assembly and commissioning. In addition, Exotic World also brought certain difficulties because, in addition to stability, design must not be forgotten. So, there were many different trades that were not familiar with each other and had to be coordinated. Another example was the state of the ground: it was waterlogged... We had to lime the various places determined on the plans to be able to move the machines. The principle consists of mixing the soil with lime and cement in order to reinforce the bearing capacity of the soil.
Has the ride been a success for the park? How have visitors reacted to it? Returns were excellent! Our community eagerly awaited Kondaa to open. We even regularly spotted fans camping alongside the construction area! The public loves it. Walibi offers many kinds of sensations: freefall, inversion… but we lacked airtimes. And Kondaa is an airtime machine!
Can you give me any fun facts about the ride?
I always advise to ride it twice as the experience in the front is completely different than in the back. In the front, you are grabbed by the speed of the ride; but in the back, you get pulled by the train and you can feel the airtimes even harder!
Are there plans to expand Exotic World - is there more to come? We have accomplished many projects of our investment plan, but it is not done yet. Due to the Covid period we will have to rephrase some of our plans… But, we will continue implementing it!
