www.parkworld-online.com Sunkid installs first Sunrider

at German family park Austrian manufacturer Sunkid has announced the successful installation of the world’s first Sunrider attraction, at German family park Erlebnispark Steinau.

T

he Sunrider is the latest family ride concept from Sunkid, and was installed at the Erlebnispark Steinau in Hesse,

Germany, in late May 2021. The new Sunrider has vehicles themed

as caterpillars installed on four parallel tracks. Riders move forward or backwards along the rail by pulling and pushing the hand levers. The ride is easy to operate, intuitive, and extremely entertaining. Riders can enjoy a ride along the rail on their own or compete with others on the parallel lanes.

The new Sunrider complements the other Sunkid products already installed in the park, which include the Water Bob Nautic Jet, the butterfly themed Pendulum Track, two Luna Loops, a wooden ball tower, and a number of other wood products. “We place great value on offering our

guests new and innovative rides at Erlebnispark Steinau,” said Theo M. Zwermann, managing director at Erlebnispark Steinau. “The Sunrider is a true innovation that does not require any operator. Those were the main reasons for our investment. Entire families use the Sunrider. Our four lanes permit parallel use and allow a family-internal competition. Once they have figured out how it works, all age groups really get on with it very well.”

The ride can be customised to any theme, with horses, bananas, motorcycles, or excavators, among other things. “Several considerations together with Sunkid have led to the idea of implementing a caterpillar theme. The natural movements of a caterpillar can be imitated very well with the Sunrider. Our park aims to introduce children to different animals. This facility is ideal for that,” continued Zwermann. “Our guests love the Sunrider. It is used very often and by many. It fits our landscape very well visually as well thanks to its caterpillar theme.”

Sunrider a great gain for the operator A wild mustang to gallop, a hopping rabbit or even a caterpillar for a fun ride: there are practically no limits to the individual theming of this attraction. Operation is intuitive and, above all, extremely entertaining because by pulling and pushing the hand levers, the vehicle moves forwards or backwards on the

rails - depending on the impulse given to the vehicle by the rider.

The principle corresponds to a rail cart drive and therefore requires physical activity and some coordination. Guests can enjoy the ride on their own or in competition.

The Sunrider is also a great gain for the park operator. The approximately 20m long and straight tracks are set up parallel - i.e. at least two, but of course more are also possible - on an even terrain. Since no power connection is required and the attraction is designed according to the EN 1176 standard for public playgrounds, it can be operated inexpensively and without supervision by the park operator. Battery-powered coin operation is optionally available, as are customer-specific themes and individual rail lengths.

The Sunrider is already in operation with a caterpillar theme at Erlebnispark Steinau (DE) and has been generating excitement among guests since its opening. Two more projects are planned for summer 2021 in Germany and Denmark.
