Gulliver’s Valley theme park opens its doors
Gulliver’s Valley is the UK’s newest theme park. The site, which is the fourth in the Gulliver’s Theme Park Resorts family, opened on 11 July, featuring more than 30 rides and attractions

he park’s opening was postponed earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. A number of additional safety measures have since been made to the park in response to the pandemic, including temperature checks on arrival; mandatory advanced booking; contactless entry; social distancing measures; and the requirement of face coverings on rides for all guests over three-years-old.
Park World editor, Becci Knowles, spoke exclusively to Nick Phillips, project director at Gulliver’s Theme Park Resorts to find out more
How long was Gulliver’s Valley in development for? The site has been five years in planning. We first visited back in 2015, work then got underway in 2018, before we opened our doors this year, in 2020.
Who were the investors Sheffield City Region provided £1.5m of funding towards the project.
How did you choose designers, master planners, ride manufacturers? Here at Gulliver’s, we are quite unique in that we are a family-run business. We are a very close-knit team and we do a lot of the work ourselves in house – from planning right through to manufacturing, so we don’t need to go through the lengthy process of choosing teams of planners. We have everyone we need right here. Just three of the rides at the park are being brought
in from Italy, from the SBF Visa Group – who we have worked with before, but thanks to Coronavirus we’ve not been able to get them here yet! We have a clear vision for what we want our parks
to be and we then work closely together to bring our ideas to life.
