Savværk. They helped us with insights on how a classic lumbermill is designed and operated – and they helped us building some replicas of different types of saws and finding old used tools and sawblades.”

Layout Stefan continues: “Based on a proven design from hundreds of tracks built over the years, each Vekoma Family Coaster has its special features, making it possible for our customers to choose from a wide selection. You can customise our standard models to fit virtually any site, landscape or theme.” The 238m track length is beautifully stretched out

throughout the park of Fårup Sommerland. “The out and back design symbolises the movement of a saw and guests will have a completely different ride experience, rather than the standard Family Boomerang Rebound,” says Stefan. Asked how closely Vekoma worked with Fårup

Sommerland from the initial concept all the way through to completion,” Stefan tells Park World: Very. I was closely involved at initial concept phase before contract signing (eg. location in the park; the layout) and after contract signing there was also lots of mutual involvement. For example, we worked together to keep the terrain heights as they were by shortening columns at the end of track, as well as removing a column in the section close to the water – all to blend the ride natural into the park as it was.” Stefan continues: “Fårup kept us very up-to-date regarding theming ideas and was always involved in discussions. So, this has been a mutual effort by working closely together with visits to the park, Fårup visiting Vekoma and reference visits with the people from Fårup to make sure the park got the ride it deserved.

A smooth ride

On whether they faced any challenges along the way, Stefan admits that while “during each construction there are challenges,” nothing was impossible to overcome. Crucially, everything ran on time: “The

construction phase was finished before the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe and even the T&C phase was finished just a couple of days finished before Denmark went into lockdown.” There was however, one thing they couldn’t control

and that was the weather, says Tue: “Before the pandemic we had some major issues with controlling groundwater levels due to the wettest February in 80 years in Denmark,” but even this wasn’t insurmountable. Reflecting on the success of the project, Tue concludes: “The whole area has become a nice oasis for families and the theming is just perfect for the park, which is situated in the middle of the woods.”
