Kent Lemasters inducted into WWA Hall of Fame

At the recent World Waterpark Association’s (WWA) annual convention in Las Vegas AmusementAquatic Management Group, Inc. (AMG) president Kent Lemasters was inducted into the WWA Hall of Fame. It’s a prestigious industry honour that celebrates individuals who have reached a level of distinction by providing outstanding service, innovation, or have helped advanced the WWA and the water attractions industry. North American editor, Paul Ruben reports…

In 1982, Lemasters was recruited to Calgary, Canada to

serve as General Manager of Calaway Park, a Hanna- Barbera theme park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, western Canada’s first major theme park. Then, in 1985, Lemasters moved to Los Angeles to become the VP and General Manager for Raging Waters Waterpark in San Dimas, California. Lemasters later became co-owner of the park and stayed at Raging Waters for 15 years. The management of Castle Park was later added to his responsibilities. Throughout his early career he worked with and learn

from some of the best in the water park industry. Lemasters feels fortunate to have worked with and learned from some of the best including Jack and Pete Herschend, Ted Miller of Dollywood and Alan Joelson of Southland Entertainment.

with his parents and two siblings. He attended Branson High School and studied at Southwest Missouri University. When he got his first job as a guide for Silver Dollar City’s Marvel Cave at 16, he didn’t realise it would lead to a lifelong career in the waterpark and amusement industry. After landing his first job as a cave guide, Lemasters continued to work for Silver Dollar City in a variety of seasonal positions, including the role of train robber and entertainer in the Hatfield & McCoy street show. In the off- season, he worked construction at the park and then supervised a team laying the steel rail for the park’s steam train. His first management position was as operations manager for parking, trams, tickets and tours. Lemasters did well and was asked to develop the Silver Dollar City Group Sales department as group sales manager. Next, he was promoted to director of marketing for Silver Dollar City in Tennessee, which later became Dollywood.
