SEASON PREVIEW: EUROPE

Belgian operator Plopsa opens an indoor park in Poland based around the popular Maya the Bee IP: Majaland, at the Kownaty Holiday Park complex in Western Poland. It will start with the size of the Plopsa Indoor Coevorden park in the Netherlands before quadrupling in size. The park will have three themed zones as well as an outside area, and will include a Zierer coaster based on popular character Vicky the Viking.

Mer de Sable, known as the oldest theme park in France, plans to invest two million euros on a Mexican land for 2018, featuring two new attractions, new theming and a new catering outlet. Attractions include The Condor, a Wave Swinger ride from the German manufacturer Zierer, which takes guests back in time to the Aztec era, and the Tornado, a Fiesta Mexicana by Moser's Rides.

Dream Island, slated as the world’s largest indoor theme park, is expected to open in Russia towards the end of the year. A ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ themed zone will house a double loop thrill coaster by Intamin, and a dinosaur themed flying theatre by Huss will be designed specifically for the park. The opening date for Ankapark in Turkey, the brainchild of former Ankara mayor Melih Gökçek, has been pushed back a number of times – however with Immersive Planet masterplanning, the opening

date has been set at a definitive April 23. Seventeen coasters are under construction, including a 10 Inversion steel coaster by Intamin and a Volare coaster by Zamperla, among others. Thierry Fééry, a new operator, has invested three million euros in Cita-Parc in Lille, France, which will replace the former Poussins Park. 2018 seems to be the year of Peppa Pig, as Entertainment One licenses a number of themed lands for parks. Gardaland in Italy will feature Pirate Island Boat Ride, and Grandpa Pig’s Train Ride (both Metallbau) and a balloon ride by Technical Park. Meanwhile, Paulton’s Park in the UK will add The Queen’s Flying Coach Ride and Grampy Rabbit’s Sailing Club to Peppa Pig World.
