A Colombian Attractions and Amusement Parks Association spokesperson said that about 20 million people attend the parks each year, equivalent to a little less than half the inhabitants of the country. Currently there are around 380 parks in the country, encompassing theme parks, Family Entertainment Centres (FEC), aquatic centres and zoos that have migrated to the concept of bioparks.

MEXICO

Mexico remains at the forefront of the industry in the Latin American region, especially for the increasingly numerous projects in the so-called Riviera Maya, on the Caribbean Coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, located in the northwest of the country. Additionally, it has a large number of amusement parks led by Six Flags Mexico.

In the Mayan Riviera, a large percentage of ventures are by the well-known Xcaret brand that is dabbling in the concept of immersive hospitality, which combines theme and water parks with large-scale hotel projects. In recent months, several projects have been announced in the Aztec country.

Amikoo is a mega amusement park that will start activities in the year 2020, whose name means ‘friend’ in the Mayan language. It is a large complex that will have a museum of Mayan archeology and anthropology, an amusement park related to the culture, a 1,200-room hotel and an important commercial infrastructure. The investment will be approximately US $ 840 million and the development of the works will generate at least 9,000 direct and 36,000 indirect jobs, said the investors, who expect to receive more than 4.5 million visitors every year. It will be located in Punta Maroma, about 20 kilometres from Ciudad del Carmen, a leading tourist destination in the state of Quintana Roo. Its total area will be 120 hectares, equivalent to

Diniz Group, partnered with by the Mexican brand ¡Recórcholis!, undertook the construction of a new amusement park in the capital that will extend more than 27 thousand square metres. Named Kataplum, the park will be located on the roof of the Parque Las Antenas shopping center, east of Mexico City. Diniz chief executive Antonio Quevedo revealed that the investment will be approximately 3 million dollars, and added that they initially expect 1.2 million visitors per year. He also reported that the amusement park brand Kataplum will represent at least 50 percent of the total revenues of Grupo Diniz in 2021. Kataplum will have 30 attractions, divided into: children, family and adrenaline, as well as a light show, theater with 4D simulators, skill games, food area, restaurants and a sport bar. Among the extreme activities, ‘Insomnio’ stands out, raising guests to a height of 20m. Las Nubes, meanwhile, will reach 41m, to which 22.5m, the height of the shopping centre, will be added, allowing visitors to enjoy intense sensations over 60 metres. Also in the adrenaline category is El Trompo, with seats in the shape of a motorcycle on a curved of 37m rail that can reach 15m high whilst turning; Ñáñaras, which takes riders around 360 degrees, and Patatús, with 360º turns at 18m high.

For the little ones, there will be games including charmed chairs, little cups, caterpillar and Tatu tower. For the family there will be basket balloons; the tic toc truck which allows children to drive their own train; bumper cars; a two floor carousel; crazy worm; go karts; magic bug and flying bicycles and more. Diniz also integrated a game called Imagia, which consists of an interactive simulator for the whole family with a capacity of 24 people.
