Hello and welcome to another issue of Casino International.
We start this issue with the very sad news of the passing of Paul Gauselmann, Founder and, for decades, Chairman of the Board of the Merkur Group. Paul shaped the company for 67 years, turning a one-man operation into a 15,000+ employee business, and was hugely influential within the industry we know today. We have a full tribute to him on page 10, and I urge you to take a read.
Elsewhere in the issue you’ll find our usual collection of regional experts giving their take on business in the sector, as well as a preview of some of the companies who’ll be exhibiting at G2E Las Vegas.
I find it hard to believe that it’s already time to start planning for the trip to the west coast. I’ve not attended for the last couple of years and am keen to hurtle round the halls taking in as much as possible. As always, I plan to arrange my meetings in a totally non-logical way, ensuring that each meeting is as far from the next as possible. If you’re hoping to bump into me, I’ll be the one that looks like a tourist, walking far too fast to be comfortable and sweating while looking at a show map… upside down. Good times.
Other that that, it’s raining, so you don’t have to worry about me mentioning how hot it is. I miss the sun already.
Let’s hope Las Vegas remembers it’s a desert not a jungle. Be seeing you.
