beauty of Thailand, and I look forward to seeing the whole show.”

THE RACE FOR GAMING LICENCES

Macau and Asia gaming analysts are also closely watching Melco’s leadership role in this initiative.

Ben Lee, Managing Partner at IGamiX, stated, “Of the six [Macau] operators, they [Melco] are the most aggressive overseas and have a track record of building non-gaming amenities, such as crowd-drawing live entertainment and a water park.” Niall Murray, Founder and Chairman of Murray International Group, observed, “Melco may be early to announce their feet on the ground, but they are not alone. What will matter most is how well they and their competitors navigate the complicated process to win an EC [Entertainment Complex] licence.” Murray continued, “Although Melco may be fast out of the gate, there are many hurdles ahead before they can triumphantly cross the finish line. Competitors will adopt different strategies and be willing to make significant investments in Thailand to win a coveted EC licence.”

He added, “It is commendable that Melco is committing to train global soft power leaders and has brought some of the best partners to Thailand. It is a great start to a long journey.” In a joint statement, Melco and THACCA said, “‘The New Rules of Soft Power’ is an unparalleled opportunity to engage with industry leaders, exchange innovative ideas, and redefine cultural narratives as Thailand embarks on its journey to becoming a global soft power powerhouse.”

Lawrence Ho’s statement concluded, “At Melco, we believe that investing in creative industries means investing in the future. That’s why we are honoured to support Thailand by offering its emerging talents the opportunity to learn from the world’s best.”
