Signs Express Liverpool and Wirral grows in-house production with HP Latex printer

igns Express Liverpool and Wirral has expanded its production setup with the installation of an HP Latex R530 and HP Latex FS50W Printer. The company invested in the HP
Latex R530 in March 2025, expanding its ability to produce a wider range of applications in-house across both rigid and flexible media and with white ink. As a result, the company has gained greater control over production schedules while expanding the range of materials it can print on. A second investment, the HP Latex FS50W, further expanded capacity for large-format applications with its maximum width of 3.2m and can handle large-scale graphics, banners, wallpapers and building wraps in house.
Ian Furlong, co-owner of Signs Express Liverpool and Wirral, said: “We can now produce a much wider range of applications ourselves, improve turnaround times, respond to changing customer demands, and pursue new opportunities without relying on outsourced production, putting us in a stronger position to grow profitably.” Colin Easton, UK&I large-format print country lead at HP, said: “Signs Express Liverpool and Wirral is a great example of how print businesses are using technology to take greater control of production and unlock new applications. “By bringing more work in-house with HP Latex technology, the team has created a more agile operation that can respond faster to customers while continuing to grow its business.”
William Smith adds a Zünd cutter to support growing demand for signage

illiam Smith Group 1832 has invested in a Zünd S3 digital cutting machine, its fourth Zünd
cutter in total and its second S3 model. The addition follows a period of business growth and keeps production capacity aligned with rising demand across its signage operation. Rob Siswick, production and
warehouse manager at William Smith Group 1832, said: “The improvements in capacity we saw went through the roof. When it came to upgrading from our
existing KN models, the process pointed us straight to another S3.” Two S3 models now run alongside two other Zünd cutters on the production floor, with the team already focused on what that combination means for output. The investment brings William Smith’s fleet to four Zünd machines, a straightforward reflection of the scale and pace of the cutting operation the business now runs. With demand on the rise from both new and existing customers, it identified the need to invest in a new machine, which could improve its production time and also its environmental credential. After setting out its long-term goals to the team at Papergraphics, an approved HP partner, it was decided that the HP

Latex R530 was the best solution for the company. The company took delivery of the printer in mid-May, with staff at its West Yorkshire site now starting to explore what is possible with the technology. A compact all-in-one rigid and flexible printer, the HP Latex R530 can print at a top speed of 24m sq/hr in indoor mode and print on boards up to 1.6m wide and 5cm thick, as well as use white ink and runs on 3L ink cartridges.

Mike Dumbreck, director of Printbureau,
said: “The main aim was to improve our environmental impact as we currently mount all of our external and internal signage using vinyl. We also wanted to improve on production time and efficiency, as well as offer more bespoke product ranges.”
