Focus on Sustainable Products
It’s that time of year again, where we shine the spotlight on those products in the sign making that are sustainable, eco-friendly and kind to the environment. Take a look at what’s new in this sector over the next few pages.
SpotOn SynTac
Sustainability is no longer just an optional extra Drytac
Offering sustainable, planet friendly services to customers is no longer just an optional extra; it is an absolute must. Such has been the increase in demand for this type of service that those who do not deliver sustainable options risk losing valuable existing and potential clients to competitors that are better placed to meet their needs. Drytac has a long-standing commitment to the environment,
developing and releasing new products to meet the changing demands of the wider market. The latest addition is SpotOn SynTac, a polypropylene window and wall graphic media. Developed with sustainability in mind, SpotOn SynTac is perfect
for seasonal promotions, short-term campaigns, or peel-and-stick signage where easy removal is key. Coated on one side with a unique dot-pattern removable pressure-sensitive polyacrylate adhesive, the new product is incredibly easy to work with, allowing for bubble-free results on a wide range of smooth surfaces, all without the need for a professional installer. Unlike traditional PVC films, SpotOn SynTac is engineered with a polypropylene face-film, a more environmentally responsible alternative. Polypropylene does not contain chlorine, plasticisers or heavy metals, while it is lighter and requires less energy to
manufacture. Crucially, this PVC-free solution performs just as well as traditional PVC products, meaning users can achieve the same levels of quality while delivering a more sustainable service to their customers. Compatible with latex/ resin and UV printers, SpotOn SynTac is an ideal solution for creating eye-catching applications across retail and POP displays, window graphics, wall graphics, peel-and-stick signage, short-term and pop-up events, as well as promotions where fast installation and clean removal are essential. For additional flexibility, the product is available in white matte or clear gloss options, while it offers two years of interior durability and six months when used on exterior projects.

For sign makers, sustainability is increasingly
at the forefront of both operational and purchasing decisions. Mimaki’s ‘Print Different’ philosophy has sustainability at its core, and its latest range of solvent inks has been developed to minimise their impact without compromising on the performance that makes them so popular. The Japanese manufacturer’s award-winning SS21 and SS22 solvent inks feature on products including the new JV200 printer, CJV200 printer/ cutter, as well as the popular 330 Series high production models. In a move away from single-use plastic, Mimaki has transitioned its SS21 and SS22 ink packs into lightweight cardboard cartons that are easier to recycle, significantly reducing the amount of plastic waste generated in busy print environments. This practical, measurable improvement helps customers lower their environmental footprint while maintaining the durability and flexibility for which solvent is known. The SS22 ink is futureproof too. By removing GBL (a substance facing restrictions under chemical regulations),

Mimaki has ensured SS22 remains compliant well into the future, giving sign makers confidence that their investment in compatible hardware remains secure. Both SS22 and SS21 inks also sport GREENGUARD Gold certification, and the new SS22 option benefits from 40% lower odour than alternatives. These environmental efforts are further supported in the UK by Mimaki distributor, Hybrid Services through its pioneering Let’s Do More initiative. This rebate-linked recycling scheme encourages users to return empty solvent ink cartons for responsible processing, creating a simple, incentivised route to reduce waste. Of course, solvent inks continue to play an important role in the sign and display market because of their long outdoor durability, vibrant colour and excellent scratch resistance – properties that can reduce the need for reprints and lamination, contributing indirectly to waste reduction. With a smarter approach to packaging, recycling and formulation, Mimaki’s solvent inks show how sustainability and performance can go hand in hand, offering sign makers a more responsible way to print without compromise.
