Smart sheet handling that keeps production moving Kongsberg PCS
Producers of signage and display, folding carton, and corrugated applications face increasing pressure to improve productivity and deliver against shorter timelines. Demonstrating its commitment to delivering enhanced automation options, Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (PCS) has introduced its Smart Material Handler (SMH) – a modular sheet handling solution designed to minimise manual intervention and optimise sheet flow on Kongsberg cutting tables. Acting as an extension to the existing Kongsberg C and Ultimate series, the Smart Material Handler semi-automates production workflow, enabling smoother material handling and greater operational flexibility. The SMH comprises a loading table which has the option to add an UnderSide Camera that automatically detects registration marks and adjusts positioning, and an offloading table. The system allows operators to load new materials while the
cutting table is still processing the previous sheet, acting as a buffer zone which means one operator can manage tasks typically requiring two, effectively reducing labour needs by up to 50%. Offering flexible workflows, the loading table is suitable for rigid substrates but has the option to be quickly replaced with a roll feeder. Connected to the other side of the cutting table, the offload area is set at a fixed 12° angle – streamlining the collection of completed jobs and reducing the risk of costly errors.
