s the digital age relentlessly progresses, businesses globally are embarking on their transformation journeys, which are often characterised by an
accelerated shift towards cloud-based solutions. This drive towards a digital future has necessitated an increased reliance on managed services. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) are stepping up and assisting organisations in navigating through the intricacies of cybersecurity and the unfamiliar territory of public cloud platforms. But why are managed services so relevant in the cloud landscape right now?
Understanding managed IT services Managed services refer to the delegation of certain tasks or functions by an organisation to an external provider, known as a managed service provider. This outsourcing model is designed to handle and oversee specific
operational aspects, allowing the organisation to focus on its core competencies. In a successful managed services partnership, the customer benefits from stable pricing and can concentrate on their primary business objectives instead of being bogged down by IT maintenance tasks. Although there are various types of managed IT services available, the core principle remains consistent: to shift the responsibility of IT maintenance from the customer to the provider. Managed services, in the current context, are proving invaluable benefits
including reduced IT costs and enhanced security posture through outsourcing their IT services. With more than 95% of new digital workloads projected to be deployed on cloud-native platforms by 2025, according to Gartner, the demand for managed services is at an all-time high. Factors fuelling this growth include the shift towards multi-cloud and hybrid cloud solutions, and the increasing adoption of Software-as-a- Service (SaaS) solutions.

benchmark report, as far as digital transformation as a whole is concerned, 69% of organisations have sped up their plans in some way as a result of the pandemic. As well as this, 74% of European partners expect to sell more managed services in the next three years. According to IDC’s managed services survey conducted in 2022, it appears that the rate at which enterprises are shifting their IT to cloud has accelerated, with about 40% of IT now repatriated into cloud capabilities across both applications and
infrastructure, which has more than doubled from 2019 and 2021 when it was about 15% and 17% respectively. The advantages of managed services are manyfold, encompassing
reduced IT costs, enhanced security, improved scalability, and flexibility. One of the standout benefits of managed IT services is the cost efficiency they bring to businesses. Unlike traditional IT support, which can vary in cost due to unexpected issues or breakdowns, managed IT services often come with a fixed monthly fee. This makes budgeting more predictable. Additionally, the initial outlay for technology infrastructure, from hardware to software licences, can be hefty. With managed services, businesses can access the latest technologies without bearing the brunt of these large capital expenses. Instead, these costs become operational expenses spread out over time. Small to medium-sized businesses might find it challenging and
expensive to maintain a dedicated in-house IT department. Managed IT services bridge this gap by providing businesses access to a team of professionals with a diverse range of IT skills. This ensures that all IT needs, from basic to advanced, are effectively addressed. The expertise that MSPs bring to the table means businesses can leverage the latest technologies and best practices for any given challenge.
