Diversity

Let’s talk about DE&I

Ghazal Asif, vice president, Global Partners & Alliances at Rubrik discusses why the channel will play an important role in solving the tech industry’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) challenge.

T

he tech industry has always suffered from a lack of diversity. It’s estimated that only around 15% of the tech workforce are from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and gender

diversity figures show it coming in 30% lower than most other job markets. Tackling this issue is vital, but it’s not simple. Actionable steps towards

advancing a DE&I initiative need to be embedded across every level of an organisation if they’re to have a real impact, and that’s no easy feat. Tis is where the channel plays an important role; as the connecting link

between various vendors and end-user businesses, these organisations are in a unique position. Tey’re able to create and host communities focused on addressing DE&I – and they can exert no small amount of pressure back on the industry as a whole.

The role of the channel in fostering dialogue Of course, the responsibility for progressing DE&I ultimately lies with vendors, but there’s no denying that the channel can be an important springboard. Te nature of the channel as an interface between vendors means that channel partners can not only champion DE&I within their own businesses, but also build a forum for the wider industry.
