The Iron Rock from 1924 Marketing poster from the 1970s

become the beating heart of the Made in Germany bicycle production.

Every ABUS Granit lock is produced in Rehe. In addition, this facility includes a research and development department and a training centre where engineers and tool makers can learn their craft and begin a lifelong career at ABUS. Automated production systems are designed and built in Rehe as well as every customised “One-key” bicycle lock. The Rehe plant has grown steadily since the early days with the most recent addition of 5,000 square metre capacity completed in 2022 in order to serve the booming OEM demand for e-bike battery locks and produce the new Granit Super Extreme 2500 angle grinder resistant D lock. In addition to endeavouring to gain a foothold in the German market, the company owners continued to establish subsidiaries abroad. ABUS Hong Kong Ltd. was founded in 1979 and set a

template for future production partners building products under the direction of ABUS engineers who closely coordinated and supervised production.

Product range grows successively As well as the number of branches, the product range also grew steadily – not least thanks to visionary decisions such as launching a line of bicycle helmets in 1994.
