RETAILERS

As many shops and brands are finding out though, it’s just not sustainable. It definitely feels like the start of 2024 is in a much better place for us and the market. There is a definite light at the end of the tunnel now.

What are your plans for 2024 and beyond? We are just finalising the applications to choose two RedSky Bikes supported riders for the first time which I think will be great for the shop but also amazing to be able to give back to some local riders. Our shop demo events and shop gravel rides were a great success last year so we will be planning to launch some more of those soon. After the success of last year’s event, the North Yorkshire

Moors 300km will be starting and ending at the shop on July 6 to 7.

Everybody knows that bums on saddles sell bikes, so for us taking a demo bike on a trail is far more beneficial than having a pedal around outside our shop. Our demo event at Hamsterley Forest in April was a great chance to attract customers that might not have known about us and a chance for RedSky Bikes to spend the day in one of our local forests showcasing our bikes and growing the name.

Do you have any tips or advice you’d like to share with other retailers? However hard your day might have been or what you might be going through, when a customer walks through your door, put that smile on, make them feel welcome and important. Great customer service costs you nothing but can ensure

you keep customers coming back time and time again, and the best bit is they usually tell their friends about it. Always listen to your customer when they are talking about what they want a new bike for and make sure that the bike you match them with is exactly that, a match. Keep abreast of what’s going on in the industry, in your local shops and other retailers to try and make sure you remain relevant in the marketplace. Social media is important for marketing your business but we have found the best channel to talk to your customers is via email Newsletters. It’s more direct and targeted. We use Citrus Lime for our EPOS, e-commerce and

customer loyalty programme which is great at recording our customer details so we can talk to the customers who have chosen to subscribe to RedSky Bikes. We wouldn’t be without this system now. It is essential for managing our inventory, website and finances. 
