60 Years of Elvedes: From Moped Cables to Modern Workshop Partner
Dutch family business Elvedes recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. From moped a complete package of high-quality tools and parts for the modern cycle mechanic.
Elvedes is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Can you share the history of the company, from starting with moped cables in 1965 to becoming the cycle parts supplier you are today? Elvedes, a Dutch family business since 1965! It has now been over 60 years since the founder, Mr. Lourens van der Spruijt, began directly selling two-wheeler parts to dealers. In the early years he focused mainly on mopeds, and later increasingly on bicycles. As the demand for brake and gear cables grew, the company decided to concentrate more on the production and assembly of custom control cables and

to discontinue trading components. This meant a great deal of manual work, and direct dealer visits were no longer possible for a one-man business. Sales now went through wholesalers, which allowed for full-time production.
In addition to supplying cables to wholesalers for the
aftermarket, Elvedes also delivered directly to bicycle manufacturers (OEM). In 2002, his two twin sons, Carl and Peter, took over the company and started to look at it with fresh eyes. They decided to expand the range—which until then consisted mainly of a wide assortment of cables—with
