FRANCHISEFOCUS INVESTMENT: PRICE ON APPLICATION Take the leap United Carpets and Beds franchisees say: go for it! T
he largest franchised flooring and bed retailer in the UK – 59 locations across England and Wales – United
Carpets and Beds enters 2025 with plans to expand its franchise network. From day one, franchisees receive assistance from the Senior Management Team and the entire support staff, including operational guidance, marketing strategies recruitment assistance, as well as accountancy and payroll services.
Case study: Gary and Beckie With a family of three, Gary and Beckie sought a business opportunity that would support their family and allow them to enjoy quality time together. Gary began his career with the company in sales and gradually worked his way up. When the opportunity to own a franchise presented itself, he seized it!
Did you always want to run your own business? Why United Carpets? Gary: I’d thought about it, but was also quite happy doing what I was doing!
Running the business was the natural progression for me. If it hadn’t been for the opportunity, it may have never got past the thinking-about stage, and I might have regretted it later in life. I knew many staff and franchisees who’d been with them for a long period of time, which is a good sign United Carpets are doing something right.
How have you been supported? Beckie: I didn’t know much about how to run a business, so had lots of questions, and made a lot of calls to the Head Office team, who always talked me through what I needed. Without that support, it would have been hugely difficult to get through the first few months.
Gary: We’ve also developed good friendships with other franchisees who are only ever a phone call away and have two company conferences a year – one in
“he peect it rom the eginning”
Marbella and one in the UK – attended by all of the United franchisees and their partners, as well as our entire supplier network. It’s a terrific opportunity to share our successes with the franchise network and learn from each other’s experiences.
Any advice for future franchisees? Beckie: Don’t be afraid to take the leap. I wasn’t sure about taking on a business (especially as we took over during Covid), but it is certainly worthwhile.
