WORKROOM TECHNIQUE

Snip and rip the length of fabric organza required.

Create a starch mix using starch powder and water.

Tools Bucket Drying rack Die-cut machine (or hammer) Flower mould Heat press Hot plate Petal cutter Pliers/wire cutters Scissors Stapler


Materials ¼ yard silk habotai ¼ yard silk satin-faced organza 26 gauge wire Craft glue Starch Water


Dilute the powdered starch into the water using a bucket. Create as much as required throughout the week.

Immerse the material in the starch solution and wring out excess starch when the material is soaked.

Attach the fabric to the drying rack and allow it to dry.

When fully dried, fold the fabric in half and cut the right side of the fabric up.

Keep the cut layers on top of each other, fold them in half and cut the right side of both layers. Repeat the folding and cutting until you have the desired number of layers.

In this sample here we are going to cut through four layers. If you are cutting a large petal – for example, 10 inches wide – you might layer the fabric less to account for the large shape.
