Measuring the wire and crinoline Measure the wire and crinoline. You will need 1 metre of each of the 1.00 mm wire and the 2.5 mm crinoline.


Preparing wire for the outer frame


Wait for the ends to dry (roughly 5 minutes) before continuing to thread the wire through the crinoline.

Fixing the end of the wire to stop thread unravelling Dip the end of the wire into a tube of all-purpose glue over the cotton thread.


Tip!


Why glue the ends? Glue all the threads so that, as you are passing the wire through the crinoline, it stays on the wire and doesn’t bunch up.

Thread the wire through the crinoline. You may have to ease the wire. Be cautious not to pull the crinoline too much or you will stretch it.

Colouring your wire White wire may show through some lighter-coloured crinoline tubes. You can use a permanent/watercolour pencil to help shade the hue of the outer crinoline colour to cover the white wire. This method also helps with colour matching.

Finishing the ends for the frame Glue the wire ends and crinoline together on each end and wait for it to dry.

Fixing the ends with stitches

Fixing and sewing the end Bind both ends with doubled thread as you would when binding a wire.


Casting off your thread Cast off with a slip knot and make sure you cast off the thread by threading the needle through the bind or through the crinoline and wire.

Cut the end close to the crinoline- covered wire.
