Die-cut flower


by M&S Schmalberg (USA) Custom fabric flower manufacturer M&S Schmalberg is located in the garment district of New York. They create high quality flowers for the apparel, wedding, accessory, home furnishing and millinery industries, using the same manufacturing process since they started in 1916. Some of the flower moulds they use in production date back to the turn of the previous century. In this workroom technique, M&S Schmalberg shows how to create a two-tone flower by using this type of vintage mould.


There are 6 petals layers used for the flower in this tutorial. M&S Schmalberg recommends a width of ¼ yard for the stiffening method they used, as this fits best on the drying rack they have.


If you are using a more rigid fabric, it might be better to attach the


fabric to the drying rack first and then apply the stiffening starch using a sponge. This method reduces wrinkles that would be caused by wringing out the fabric.
