by Elly Stemerdink The trade fairs

This was the first time in many years that felt as if business was as usual again in Paris. More buyers from Asia came to the European trade shows again, although there was still not a lot of Chinese customers spotted after China lifted their strict Covid policy earlier. For UK brands it also still turned out to be a challenge to get their previous customers back. Although British brands have optimised the export process for their customers, buyers are still a bit hesitant to start buying from the UK again after Brexit. Not only more visitors turned up at the trade shows; more hat brands were exhibiting at the Paris trade shows as well. Besides hat

labels, quite a number of fashion brands presented headwear in their collections.

The trends

After several seasons during which mainly quite basic-looking hats were presented and embellishment was kept to a minimum, a bit more bling seems to be seeping into the collections again. Eye-catching elements that are usually associated with occasionwear, such as lurex, glitter and sequins, are popping up in casual headwear styles such as bucket hats and beanies. Bucket hats are still popular but rounder crown shapes such as cloche hats
