Restaurant wins a coveted place in Good Food Guide

THE Duke of York Inn, Grindleton, is featured for the first time in the 2011 edition of “The Good Food Guide”, which has just been published. It is the only new entry in the area. The guide notes that this pub/rcstaurant is “offering

food that shows imagination and skill”. Chef proprietor Michael Hcathcote blends modern

dishes, such as seared scallops with home-cured ham and curried cauliflower puree and fillet of halibut with woodland mushroom tortellini, with pub favourites like chicken liver pate and steak ’n’ ale pudding, using the finest fresh local produce. The Duke of York’s reputation is now growing, mak

ing it one of the leading pub/restaurants in the Ribble Valley.

the brewery and visitor centre even further.” Daniel Williams comment

ed: “Sawley Studios is growing quicker than all of our pro

jections and I’m delighted to be able to offer our extensive online knowledge to a whole range of local businesses. “Taking a break from web

site development and manag ing the Spread Eagle, at Saw ley, for several years, Richard and I already had an excellent

working relationship and I was delighted when we were con tacted to discuss the develop ment of an improved online presence for The Bowland Brewery.” While at the Spread Eagle,

Daniel and his parents Nigel and Ysanne Williams, who owned the hotel, were one of the early adopters of The Bowland Brewery beers and helped develop its own Saw- ley’s Drunken Duck.

f: ij Ribble Valley Royal accolade for Mrs Dowson

IT was the icing on the cake for local ice cream makers when their Lancashire cheese ice cream was chosen to be put before the future king at a civic dinner. Eric and Amanda Dowsori,

of Mrs Dowson’s Real Dairy Ice Cream, based in Clayton- le-Dale, joined a number of other Lancashire food produc ers at the civic dinner hosted by the Gorton Monastery at the invitation of HRH The Prince of Wales. It was held while the Prince

was in Manchester on his tour of the UK to promote the local Start initiatives. Mrs Dowson’s Real Dairy

Ice Cream is famous for pro ducing some very unusual fla vours, Lancashire Cheese be

ing one of them. Mrs Dowson’s created this flavour a number of years ago for a competition, and since then it has been very popular as an accompaniment for savoury dishes. Amanda explained: “We

recommend that this particular flavour of ice cream is served with a warm Eccles cake or an apple pie. We blend two types of cheese with our rich and creamy base, which gives a taste and texture sensation.” The civic dinner was to cel

ebrate the simple steps that everyone can take to make bet ter use of natural resources. The dinner was locally sourced from within the North West, with Mrs Dowson’s Lancashire Cheese ice cream featuring on the menu.
