FAMILY and friends of pupils at Pendle Primary School in Clitheroe enjoyed a tasty journey around the world in aid of the Mac millan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Members of the school’s senior recorder
group entertained visitors, including the Mayor of Clitheroe, Coun. Alan Yeanng. As well as enjoying tea and coffee, visitors were asked to try a variety of cakes from around the world which had been baked by members of staff, before voting for their favourites. Some of the treats on offer included the winning Dutch blueberiy and lemon driz
zle cake made by headteacher Mrs Alison Callon, Yorkshire parkin, Indian coconut sweets, American chocolate brownies and traditional English buns. This was the third year the school had
hosted a fund-raising event for Macmillan and m that time it has raised around £1,000 Pupils in school have also paused to reflect on the floods which have devastated parts of Pakistan. After observing two minutes’ silence, pupils raised £155 for the Disasters and Emergency Committee Fund which is helping families m the affected areas-

Healthy minds events
EVENTS to help raise awareness of the relation ship between mental health and physical illnesses will be staged in Clitheroe next Thursday (October 7th). There will be displays and
information, books on pre scription, reflexology, Indian head massage and blood pressure readings at the events being staged at Clit heroe Library from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and the Pendle Club on Lowergate from 10 a.m. to noon. Information will also be
available about local initia tives such as the Little Green Bus, Healthy Lifestyles and Stepping out. World Mental Health

HIGH AND MIGHTY: Having read our coverage of the Ribble Valley’s tallest sunflowers last week, these pu pils at Brennand’s Endowed Primary School, in Slaid- burn, were keen to show off their best efforts. The school’s gardening club co-ordinator Jean McNamee commented: “We measured the largest flower on Sep tember 22nd and were thrilled to see it measured 2.5 metres (8ft 2 ’’) .’’
