Rome welcomes new luxury hotel Palazzo Ripetta
The influx of luxury hotels in Rome increases with the opening of new independent property, Palazzo Ripetta. In a city seeing the likes of Mandarin Oriental, Six Senses, Nobu Hotel, Orient Express, Soho House and more open within a short timeframe, the newest launch hopes to stand out with its focus on bringing Italy to guests – with both the food offering and architecture. Housed in the historic building of the former Conservatory of Divine Providence, which dates back to the 17th century, the property underwent its first makeover in 1968 by the architect
Luigi Moretti, and was renovated again in 2020 by the interior design studios Fausta Gaetani Design and Moi Architetti, resulting in 78 guest rooms and a restaurant, San Baylon, which is dedicated to the Spanish Saint who – according to some – is the inventor of zabaione (an Italian dessert made with egg yolks, sugar and wine). Those with a sweet tooth will be doubly pleased to know that there’s also a pastry shop onsite, headed up by Giuseppe Solfrizzi, the owner of Le Levain, a Trastevere pastry shop loved by locals.
‘One new opening a month’ for Kerten Hospitality
Greene King to make environmental social governance a core company strategy
Going forward, the climate emergency will be a key focus for the Greene King brand as it makes environmental social governance (ESG) a key strategy driver. Following a pledge from the UK’s leading pub company in early 2022 that it would become carbon net zero by 2040, the brand has announced that it will put even more weight behind reducing environmental impact and supporting communities. The pledge is designed to
put environmental and social issues at the forefront of staff’s minds when making company decisions. CEO Nick Mackenzie said: “We’re serious about meeting our net zero target by 2040 as we play our part in tackling the climate emergency. We know it’s a monumental task so it’s important we add it into our strategy to ensure it remains a goal that we’re all working towards.”
ESG-focused lifestyle operator Kerten Hospitality is ramping up development with a new opening in the final quarter of 2022. Following the opening of The House Hotel Old Tbilisi, the group – whose range of brands includes Cloud7 hotels, Nakhati gelato and The House hotels – will open new properties in Rome, Kuwait and Marrakech by the end of the year. Marloes Knippenberg, chief executive officer of Kerten Hospitality, believes that the brand’s active development pipeline will bring benefits to both guests and investors. The brand is focused on environmental, social and governance (ESG) and working with community- centric destinations. Knippenberg says: “As we ramp up our developments, we’re creating jobs in each destination we enter, proactively hiring locally and creating opportunities for those looking for career development. We’re also supporting businesses by purchasing locally wherever possible.”
