Paradiso in Barcelona

named World’s Best Bar Paradiso – the dimly-lit Barcelona bar hidden behind an antique fridge inside a pastrami shop in the city’s trendy El Born district – has taken the top spot at The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022. The award marks the first time a bar outside of New York or London has scooped the top spot, and in fact Spain fared particularly well in the awards; fellow Barcelona bars Sips and Two Schmucks came third and seventh. Paradiso owner Giacomo Giannotti said: “It’s a big honor to win and a big responsibility. We will work hard to live up to being the best and stick to our principles. Our cocktails try to push creativity. But it comes down to hard work. The more you work, the more you discover and the more creative you can be. We will celebrate and then go back to the bar to do what we do.” Taking the second spot at the awards, for the second year running, was Tayēr + Elementary in London’s Old Street, and the UK capital had five bars in the final top 50, while New York took six spots in 2022’s list. The winners were decided by an academy of more than 650 anonymous drinks aficionados spread across the globe.
